I know what side of the fence I'm on. I'm conservative thru and thru. [/ QUOTE ] Just because someone is a moderate doesn't mean they are a fence sitter. A fence sitter would be someone who has no opinion on an issue either way. I myself have many opinions, some of them sway towards the liberal side, some of them sway towards the conservative side. I make up my own mind, I don't let Sean Hannity or Alan Colmes tell me what or how to think. In fact, just about every poll you will ever see on ideology will tell you that most Americans fall towards a moderate or independent viewpoint on issues. Guest ohbrother
Re: republican or democrat? I'm a Liberal Democrat, and it has nothing to do with loosing my guns. I am a retired Union lobbist. I worked in D.C. for 22 years. My Mother and Dad where both Labor attonerys. I was taught that to be liberal meant to be kind, help people who need help, feed the poor, and fight for common people. [ QUOTE ] I was taught that to be liberal meant to be kind, help people who need help, feed the poor, and fight for common people. [/ QUOTE ] If stealing from the productive members of society and giving it to the non-productive members means "kindness".....then you are affiliated with the correct party. Better back up and get a good grip on the ball before you go pitching a curve in this forum sir. The top 25 states ranked by ammount of per capita charitable giving ar RED states (that means states that voted for Bush in 2004). Wanna try a different angle?? I regurlarly donated to the Red Cross through the United Way campaign when they came to our work. oldksnarc
Re: republican or democrat? [ QUOTE ] When was the last time you conservatives paid a strangers power bill, gave them money for gas to go see a doctor? Answer never [/ QUOTE ] As for a stranger, I have and probably will again - in spite of a bad experience. Had a stranger call once to help them get a prescription filled. Instead of giving them the money I went and picked up the prescription and took it to them. Worst cussing I ever got. They were mad because I didn’t give them the money. Every time I pay my taxes I am paying for someone's health care, food bill, energy bill, and to help clothe them. If you meant out-of-pocket and above and beyond what the liberals make me do: let's see - Salvation Army, American Red Cross, St Jude’s Children Hospital, Katrina Relief Fund, several of the fundraisers resulting from 9-11 - first three on an on-going and continuing basis. I don’t contribute to United Way because they DO support several organizations I don’t agree with but DO NOT support the Boy Scouts because the Scouts don’t accept gays. And most recently, several hundred dollars to a family whose house burned to the ground and another family who lost their wife and mother to cancer and the insurance company left them high and dry. These were my choice. And, that’s my rub. I don’t mind paying taxes because I know we have to fund government so that necessary services are provided. By services I don’t mean entitlement programs - I mean streets, highways, law enforcement, fire, ambulance, clean water, and so on. I don’t even have a problem with the temporary “hand-UP” to someone who has run into a rough stretch. What I do have a problem with is the permanent, monthly “hand-outs” thru the dozens of liberal entitlement programs to the same lazy, mooching people who are capable of working and providing for themselves but refuse to do so because the liberals have enslaved them into thinking they cannot provide for themselves - or who know they don’t have to provide for themselves because we are compelled to care for them. Never? Again, a liberal determining whether or not I give enough.

My Mother and Dad where both Labor attonerys. [/ QUOTE ] Theres the root of the problem. You've been brainwashed by enemy. (please don't take that comment seriously. I know you love your parents) [ QUOTE ] I was taught that to be liberal meant to be kind, help people who need help, feed the poor, and fight for common people. [/ QUOTE ] You've been decieved. Being liberal really means taking away all personal responsibilty and calling it "a desease". Being liberal means to take away the rights of those who take care of themselves and forcing them to take care of others. Being liberal means taking away relious freedoms from those who belive in something, so those who don't don't have to feel threatend. Being liberal is the face of justice with the body of injustice. Being liberal is imposing a moraless society and calling it enlightenment. Being liberal is taking away my right to defend my self so I can be safe. Being liberal means killing babys and calling it "Choice" Being liberal means letting child rapist and murderers live in the name of compassion. Being liberal means not letting me pray with my students in the name of freedom of religion. (I do it anyway ) Being liberal means burning my flag and calling it free speech. Being liberal is letting our country be invaded by hostiles and then giving them my money. [ QUOTE ] When was the last time you conservatives paid a strangers power bill, gave them money for gas to go see a doctor? Answer never [/ QUOTE ] Almost every week in Sunday school. We just don't put it in the paper or on the news when we do it. Last month my Sunday school class (8 guys) dug a well for a family who was without water, put a pump in it and a filter so it would taste good and be safe to drink. What did we get out of it? The satisfaction that we knew we helped someone who needed it. Where does my F.I.C.A go? Some of it goes to people who need it and I've got no problem with that. A lot of it goes to a bunch of lazy degenerates who want it. Bumper sticker I saw a few years back. buckee
Re: republican or democrat? I am a Christian conservative. I don't always follow the Canadian Conservative line of thinking, but i will vote for who I think will represent my Christian conservative morals and beliefs the best at voting time. (and it's never been the Liberal party yet ) I don't believe in abortion on demand....period. I don't believe an unborn child is the mothers body, therefore she has no right to kill another person. I don't believe for one second that gays were born gay, but are instead a product of a very screwed up, sick society and a product of sin. I don't believe gun control is a cure or ever will be a cure for crime or violence in our society, but God and his love is. I don't believe in legalizing things, just to shut up a minority group. I don't believe in evolution, but do believe in creation. I believe strongly in common sense, even though it's rare to find these days. Those are just a few things that make me a conservative, instead of a liberal.

[ QUOTE ] I don't believe for one second that gays were born gay, but are instead a product of a very screwed up, sick society and a product of sin. [/ QUOTE ] I just wanted to touch on this one Steve a little bit. It seems to me to say the homosexuality is a product of a "very screwed up, sick society" makes it sound like it is a new issue. Homosexuality has been around for centuries, if not longer, but it wasn't talked about, or rarely heard of, so it wasn't perceived as a "problem" per se. I'm not sure if you were trying to label it as a new issue or not, that's just the way I read it.
johnf
Re: republican or democrat? [ QUOTE ] Homosexuality has been around for centuries, [/ QUOTE ] So has murder, does that make it any less wrong? Sin is in our nature. We have the ability to dwell on it and then act upon sinfull thoughts. We also have the ability (with the help of the Holy Spriit) to control our minds and behaviors if we want to. If I acted on every sinfull thought I've ever had I would be in prison or worse.
