Dukey
Me and some buddies are taking off on a pike fishing trip here on March 14 for three days on a wildlife refuge, thing is none of us have ever been fishing for pike before and we don't have a clue what bait to use or where to fish( i.e., Shallows, deep, reeds). The lakes we are fishing are about 6-8ft. deep and crystal clear. Any tips are greatly appreciated.
natethebowhunter
Re: PIKE FISHERMEN i have been fishing for pike for a while now and i know that they really bite on spoons that time of year. also try to use a top water bait. as far as live bait goes im not really sure. i have had success just by catching bluegill and throwing them back out there.i usually fish the shallower parts of a lake earlier in the year when the water i still fairly cold. once the water warms up they move back to deeper waters. try by weedy areas, they like to sit in the weeds. good luck

Shaun_300
Re: PIKE FISHERMEN Nate said it well! I have my best luck for pike with anything flashy. Pick up a few chrome Big-O's, I always catch them on those. Some large topwater baits would be good to take along too, man once you catch a pike on topwater you won't change. I reccommend Zarra Spooks, Magnum Torpedos or large Jitterbugs. Get some spoons too, I have my best luck on Williams or Mepps Syclops. Good luck! Strut10
Re: PIKE FISHERMEN Get you a couple Johnson's Silver Doctor spoons. They're killer. I also like red & white Daredevles and good sized jointed Rapalas...........usually one silver & black and one chartruese & silver. Cast or troll them parallel to weed edges just a few feet out off the weeds.
DU_man_84
Re: PIKE FISHERMEN when fishing for pike i keep it simple, red and white dare devils are a great bait, and also chartruese and white larger spinnerbaits can be killers, and also larger buzzbaits can be great topwaters for pike, and like nate said fish the weeds, were you find weeds your gonna find the pike, they hang out in the weeds waiting for baitfish to swim bye and they dart out and catch them, so find them weeds, very important, and if no weeds, shallow areas, with cover are also great places
natethebowhunter
Re: PIKE FISHERMEN definately try the topwater lures, like Shaun_300 said, once you catch a pike on topwater you will never want to use an underwater lure again

natethebowhunter
Re: PIKE FISHERMEN for me i usually catch them on smaller sizes than you would think you need. but the bigger the lure then most likely the bigger the fish you catch. but when using a big lure you wont catch as many.(at least i dont) i have caught pike about 3 feet long on on inch and a half spoons. for the top-water biats you could go pretty big though. they will snap at them either way
