TexasDeerHunter Posted February 23, 2007 Report Share Posted February 23, 2007 The news just reported that a 14yr old boy stabbed another boy in an Austin middle school. Parents of students were interviewed and blamed it on the fact the school had no metal detectors. When are parents going to take responsibilty and come to terms with the fact that kids are not being taught right from wrong, they are not shown discipline, there is no accountability anymore, and family time has become obsolete. We don't need metal detectors in schools, we need parents to be active in their childrens lives, lead by example, uphold morale values, and hold them accountable. One of the biggest problems IMO is that if parents start taking responsibility then they would realize that the problem was the person they saw everyday when they looked in the mirror. Parents don't want to be responsible anymore, it is to easy to just blame someone else. Of course when you take God out of everything; school......well where does that leave you. Number 1 problem - parents Number 2 problem - juvenile justice system Kids have figured out that they can get away with almost anything just because of their age. Start handing out some meaningful sentences to juvenile offenders and we might see a change in that. Not for any particualar reason, just because I always had one with me. For the record. Our school never had metal detectors and I never stabbed anyone. What a bunch of idiots. coles Posted February 23, 2007 Report Share Posted February 23, 2007 Re: What\'s wrong with parents???? metal detectors are not meant to be in school. i am soo glad that i went to a school in a small town and there was even a rule in the hand book that we could carry knives just as long as the blade wasnt longer than 3 inches! i mean who carries a hunting knife around with them everyday anyways? we always had ranch kids with leathermans on their belts and almost all the guys had a knife clipped to their pockets. i just dont understand how parents cant take the responsiblity. Kids are being left for whatever reasons to raise themselves. Not like it used to be where most kids had a parent at home with them after school and over the summer. [/ QUOTE ] We all carried pocket knives had trucks with gun racks ,and guns on them in the school parking lot. Never a shooting or stabbing. We fought with fists and were friends again the next day.
