Guest fishinmatt
Going to have a chance to visit cabelas and bass pro for my first time. How do you all feel these outfits are in terms of price, selection, and expertise when it comes to buying a bow from them? Do you prefer to purchace your bow from either of these outfits or a smaller pro shop? matt
Guest bruteshooter
Re: cabelas/bass pro I went all over to get my hands on any and all bows in my price range. But when it came to purchasing it, I went to my local pro shop. They're the ones that will be setting it up, and getting you your accessories, so I went to them to actually buy it. DU_man_84
Re: cabelas/bass pro yeah dont get me wrong i love cabelas, and BPS is nice also, but when it comes to purchasing a bow i would reccommend buying one from a local bowshop, not saying anything is wrong with buying a bow from those places, but i would recommend a pro shop
Guest davidmil
Re: cabelas/bass pro I agree. I guess it would depend on a particular store. I'm fortunate to have the best bow tuner expert going as the owner of my local proshop. I wouldn't think of buying anything to do with archery from anywhere else. I drive right past Bass Pro everytime I go to his shop. Their prices really aren't any different. The level of knowledge, skill and professionalism is like night and day. I realize I have a great proshop and want him to be around in case I need him.

Guest gowandasuper
Re: cabelas/bass pro I think that an archery proshop will pay more attention to your individual need and sell you a bow that fits you properly from the beginning. You may pay a little more up front, but it will be worth it in the end and you will shoot better from the start because of that.
LifeNRA
Re: cabelas/bass pro Not too many pro shops in my area unless I want to drive, or just dont feel comfortable with the ones that are! I bought a bow from the Cabela's in Hamburg, PA. Not one problem! Now thats at that location! I cant speak for other stores. Will I go back, yep! wtnhunt
Re: cabelas/bass pro Wish there was a cabelas around here. Got a bass pro in Nashville and a outlet store in Memphis, they are ok. Most of our business goes to cabelas through internet purchases. For any work done on the bows, they go to the local pro shop. Guest Finn
Re: cabelas/bass pro I buy my bows from local pro shops. Can't beat the personalized service. I like knowing the same guy will be there everytime I go in.

Dukey
Re: cabelas/bass pro No proshops in my area but we do have a cabelas, bought my bow there and have never had any problems. They have good service to, atleast in my area. I am not a real fan of BPS.

AdvantageTimberLou
Re: cabelas/bass pro They may win in price but more often than not a Pro Shop is a great place to get a bow and have it all set-up. Then again I have seen some knowledgeable people working at Cabela's and Bass Pro. They sometimes can't offer a ton of time as customers are always asking them about something. Hardwood_HD
Re: cabelas/bass pro my stepdad bought a bow at cabelas and they seemed ok but i would rather use a local smaller proshop
magnatecsteve
Re: cabelas/bass pro From what I've seen, most retail stores don't offer much of any service after the sale. They may have some people there that can make minor adjustments or give advice, but not like a pro shop would offer. Plus, I'd rather give my money to the small shops, the ones you can count on when something goes wrong during season.

unioncountyslayer
Re: cabelas/bass pro We have a Bass Pro, and I like it, but they don't have the best hunting clothing selection, but great for fishing gear. I order most of my hunting stuff from Cabela's, I wish we had one close by. And as far as buying a bow from either, not until they start carrying Mathews! Guest emt4everBOWHUNTER
Re: cabelas/bass pro Small proshop indeed. More personable if you know what i mean. Better parking too. My BPS has terrible parking.

Gator
Re: cabelas/bass pro Depends on the bow I was gonna buy. If it weren't a Mathwes or Hoyt, or another I had to get through a shop, it would be Bass Pro in OKC, BUT I also know the guy that works the Archery Dept, and he is VERY VERY knowledgeable in bow setup
Guest melsheeba
Re: cabelas/bass pro I go to Cabelas 1-2 a year to buy supplies for the upcoming season, there find for the general things that you can pick out. But when it comes to getting a bow I leave it to the local pro shop, there the ones that I will be going to and they are factory trained. At Cabelas the have high school kids working the area and they usually only take a little test to get the job.
