My 2006 Safari With Limcroma Safaris

By, Ty Weaver

The day before Dad and I left for my 2006 safari I came down with a 101 degree fever. Mom took me to the doctor and he gave me a shot and some medicine. I was feeling very bad but I was excited about my trip to South Africa.

Dad and I flew to Atlanta and stayed overnight in a motel. The next morning I was still feeling bad but we hopped on a plane headed for Johannesburg. It was a very long flight and I could not sleep. I was too excited but I was still feeling bad and had a fever.

When we got to camp we met my best buddy Hannes Els with Limcroma Safaris. His Mom made me hot tea and I tried to rest to get ready for the hunt in the morning. Dad wanted me to sleep in the first morning to try and get rid of the fever but I wanted to sit in a bow blind and start hunting. I drank some hot tea for breakfast and headed to the bow blind close to camp with Dad and our PH Johahn. The morning was clear and cool. It was hard for me to hold back my coughing when waterbuck, kudu and impala came to water. A few minutes later several warthogs came in. One was a shooter. I grabbed my Mathews Mustang and got ready to try a shot. Because I was sick, it took all my might to draw my bow. I sent an arrow tipped with a Magnus Stinger into the big warthog and he bolted. After the shot I got excited and started coughing hard, but it felt good because I was holding my cough back a long time. Johahn said my shot was a little high and a bit far back but not to worry because we had a great tracker, Hamilton.

We waited for some time and got out of the blind to look for blood. We didn’t find much but Hamilton followed the tracks 60 yards to my monster warthog! Dad was excited and gave me a big hug.

We took some pictures of my warthog and jumped back into the blind. I ate an orange and drank a Fanta to try to get my energy up. I was very excited but still had my fever. More warthogs showed up and out of nowhere a huge Blesbok stepped out into the water.

I had a tough time drawing my bow again. I sent an arrow into the Blesbok and hit him high. I was disappointed because, I know I can shoot better than that. Dad and Johahn tried to encourage me by saying “we will find that Blesbok.” We went back to camp to give the Blesbok time to lay down. Dad made me tea and I laid down for a while. Dad decided that I should stay at camp and not go out for the afternoon hunt. I was very sick and knew it was affecting my shooting. Eric went with the trackers and found my Blesbok! It was huge! The biggest one taken with the bow!

I ate supper and went to bed early. The next morning my fever was down and I was feeling a lot better. Before we went out to the blind I shot my bow several times and put the arrows in a great group. My bow was easier to draw and my confidence was up.

Re: My Africa Safari

Ty at your age and the Game you already have under your belt is amazing. You are blessed with a good family and fortunate to be able to go on Safari's. Are all those animals going on the wall ?

That must be some Trophy room you have.

Congrats on your beautiful animals and good hunting !!

Good luck on the Black Bear Ty. They can be dangerous so don't take them for granted. They can climb and move much quieter than you would think an animal their size could.

Aim point on them is much further back than African animals. Study up on it. Get your dad to help ya. He's pointing ya in the right direction so far.
