Guest Huntin_Cop
I'm lookin to buy a new shotgun for the spring turkey season this year and am interested in either the 835 or the 935. I'm usually one of those guys who like to purchase the newest model shotgun but I've heard both these models are excellent. I just can't decide. I would sure appreciate any input from some of you all regarding these models along with a price comparison if anyone knows. Thanks.
carbonhunter
Re: Mossberg 835/935? Have shot both, have owned an 835. If all your going to do is shoot turkeys and waterfowl with the gun then I would by the 935 if your going to use it as a field gun as well i would go with the 835. The 935 will only handle 3+ inch shells, but it does so really well. If you search my old posts you will see as field test i did with one in the spring of '05 I really like the way it shot and didnt think it kicked to bad even with the big old 3 1/2" 2 1/4oz loads. Those same loads in the 835 will rock your world. There both great guns play, with them and see what you like best. Pretty sure a couple of guys here own 935's and i know a bunch own 835's you'll get a bunch of reviews.
dogdoc
Re: Mossberg 835/935? I have both. I use the 835 for Turkey hunting. I have a red dot scope on it and leave it on. I purchased the 935 about a year and 1/2 ago. It is a great gun. I just sent it in for an upgrade they are doing on the 935 that were made last year. If you are just going to turkey hunt then I'd get the 835 with either the rifle sights or a red dot. I love both guns.
LifeNRA
Re: Mossberg 835/935? Just for turkeys, 935, less felt recoil using the 3.5" shells! Use for an all around gun, 835. I have an 835 with a 24" barrel. I also got a modified choke for it to use for small game and doves. Does what it needs to do! If I had to do it all over again! 935! I have other shotguns to use for other game!
AJ
Re: Mossberg 835/935? Both are great guns. If I were after a shotrgun for just turkey, deer, and waterfowl, I would have the 935. It has the same huge bore barrel that gives outstanding patterns with the long shells with heavy payloads as the 835 and it has the gas operated action which will cut the recoil. If it were going to be a do all gun I would get the 835 for the same reasons Carbonhunter mentioned (lighter load capability).
Adjam5
Re: Mossberg 835/935? I am a 835 fan no doubt.. Have 2 of 'em. One is a older model (circa 91 or so) 24"bbl and the other I bought a few weeks ago, all black for $175 at Gander Mtn, current production 28" bbl. They are running a special right now on a 835 package that you get 2 bbls(24" turkey and 28" waterfowler) for $299, the gun is all matte black. Thats a good deal. All of the newer 835's are ported, so that will give some relief to shooting those 3 1/2" shells. But I have always turkey hunted with 3" shells... seeing No need for the shoulder busters. Call 'em in close and you could use a .410! 3 1/2's are punishing, but you never feel it when the bird is right in front of you. If you are recoil sensitive I would reccomend the auto loader or if you do ALOT of shotgunning( doves, skeet, clays) the auto would seem like the logical choice. I think either wil serve you well and they are durable and affordably priced performers. I have No experience with the 935. My auto loader is a Beretta AL390 Silver Mallard. Good Luck! Guest Huntin_Cop
Re: Mossberg 835/935? A quick thanks to everyone with their input. I went ahead and bought the 835. I don't think I could be happier with a shotgun. The 3 1/2 loads kick like a son-of-gun but the pattern is awesome! I'm thrilled with it! Thanks again!
