LifeNRA
Re: Trout help?? If your planning to keep the fish to eat, use a slip rig. That is a #10 bait hook, small split-shot placed about 12-18" above the kook, above that will be the slip sinker. When I was young we would catch the trout by the hundreds using a minature marshmellows and a mealworm! Slide the marshmellow on the hook, then slide it down the line, hook the mealworm so it looks like its sitting on top of the marshmellow once its slides back on the hook! DEADLY COMBO! Throw the bait out, reel up any slack, BUT NEVER MAKE THE LINE TIGHT! You want to watch the line, not the rod!!! BTW, it helps when you use a floresence line too! DONT USE THIS RIG UNLESS YOUR PLANNING TO KEEP FISH! With this set-up, you will GUT HOOK them!!! If your looking to catch and release! There are tons of lures out there geared for trout! Kastmasters, and spinners. Guys used to look at me when I would take out the 1/4 ounce kastmasters and KO Wobblers. I would make LONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG casts and cover a ton of water, which means more fish! OH! Also pinch the barbs down too! Makes for less harm to the fish for catch and release!!! Then there's flyfishing, which I only played around for a little bit. Ill let somebody else discuss this one!

Mountaineer
Re: Trout help?? My go-to bait for around here is 1 White and 1 Yellow PowerBait Power Egg, with a nice Wax Worm on the hook. #8 hook, on a slip rig. Now for fishing for the BIG boys, I always use a Kastmaster (1/8oz. and 1/4oz.) or Little Cleo spoon, same sizes. The Cleo did very well for me last year, caught a few nice broods. Every now and then you'll have success with a small Super Duper also, especially if you troll small lakes that get stocked.
Guest okla_bowhunter
Re: Trout help?? we use little orange and chartrousse(excuse the spelling)spinner baits with light weight rod and spinning reel. also a lure called a "super duper" it works really well!!! coles
Re: Trout help?? either a #0 or #1 red and white mepps spinner works wonders with trout. also we like to troll a small gold/black, silver/black, perch, rainbow, or similar rapalas. powerbait also works, as well as nightcrawlers. just a little tip for the nightcrawlers-- take a small hypodermic needle and inject a little air into the worm to make it float up off the bottom. countless flies work. just about anything that flashes. jbeck
Re: Trout help?? I liked the 12 ga. 3 1/2 " With BB'S and a tight choke tube for fast moving water. I use the Mathews solo cam for slower pools. GOOD LUCK

Guest OKbassin
Re: Trout help?? as far as lures go (excluding fly fishing) the small Rebel Crawdad Crank, rooster tails, and Super Dupers. they are really good if used with 4 lb test. flyrod64
Re: Trout help?? Around here a mepps spinner works well. I also like to use a white rooster tail with a silver blade. It works really well early in the season.
muggs
Re: Trout help?? I'll second mepps spinners and roostertails. I've always found that a small deer hair jig tipped with a maggot works really, really good, and it's hard to beat a small red worm under a bobber. MrWiggely
Re: Trout help?? Around here on the first of April when the streams are high and muddy, plain ole worms work the best. In May when it warms up and the stream clears a little bit I use joes fly spinners. They seem to work the best for us. In late may I switch to salted minnows and drift the riffles with no weight. nutz4bucks
Re: Trout help?? Here on the famous rush river i use castmaster(little spoon type daredevil),softshell crayfish, and the best ever is water worms floating down the rapids with a bobber...Water worms are found by digging through beaver dams down in the muck and mud...They are about 1 inch long and 1/4 to 1/2 diameter trout love them and more so big onlys And forgot i use large 9 inch rapala countdown stlye the big 25-35 inchers love them... I will post some of my pics later
