turkey gun ?

Re: turkey gun ?

Dude Dicks sporting goods(if you have any in your area) have the Mossberg 535 mossyoak camo for 300$ This also comes with the field barrel 28" along with the shorter turkey barrel and a tru glow red dot scope. If I was in the market for a turkey gun this is what I'd go with. 535 w/ 2 barrels and a red dot for $300 is a great deal in my mind. I'm sure Ohio has some Dick's Sporting goods places around. If you dont go with that I'd get a 835 but that deal would be hard to pass up.

Ok so im in the market for a new shotgun to primarily use as a turkey gun. The mossberg 535 seems like it would do the trick it shoots up to a 3.5 inch shell which is always a plus in my book. my Price Range is about 400-450 but i want the gun to be fully camo any ideas? Thanks everyone! cool.gif

The Benelli Nova is what I have right now.

While the Nova is a good gun the mossy will provide better patterning ability it when talking about turkeys. Also 3 1/2" loads through a Nova is extremely painfull. It's just too light for it. At least the 835 is ported. I would probably never buy a mossy myself but if I were to buy a "turkey" gun that I'm only going to shoot a few times a year I'd strongly consider one. I currently own a Browning BPS and It's also a patterning machine.

Patterning with the 835 will be awesome. They are back bored so the bore diameter is almost as big as a 10 ga. Back bored barrels make for better patterns. Try a few chokes or ask other mossy owners what they are using and that will get you started. I'd start with the comp-n-choke. I use one on my Browning BPS and It's the best choke by 10 yards compared to the others I've tried.

Anyways I've done extensive patterning with the Nova, the 835, and the BPS. I'd go with the 835 or BPS for turkey work.

You mentioned the Mossy 535. I'm not familiar with that one so I cannot comment. The 835 would be my pick.

Re: turkey gun ?

I found info on the 535 posted by AJ on another thread.

[ QUOTE ]

No question, the 835 would be my choice. The 535 has a standard sized bore and is basically a Mossberg 500 with a long chamber. The 835 has a huge bore that gives better patterns. The patterns are shorter and denser than the standard .730" bore guns can offer.

[/ QUOTE ]

Again, for turkey work go with an 835 or for a better gun go with a BPS.
