hutchies
We are taking the kids camping next month during Spring Break. Unfortunately I am going to miss the ASA Paris Pro/Am shoot but I wouldn't think twice when it comes to spending more time with my girls. Kids look forward to it every year and we normally camp somewhere near home but this year want to get a little further away from home. Wanted to know your thoughts on this lake. How is the fishing and what type of fish does it contain? What are some good campsite areas with electricity? Any other info I should consider? Jeramie
Re: Okies, I need some input on Lake Tenkiller. Tenkiller is a very pretty lake. Its really clear and has tons of fish. Ive caught a lot of Catfish and Sandbass in there too. By next month the sandies will be in the shallows so take some spinners. Tenkiller is very clean with some great campgrounds. There are several campgrounds that have attendants so you wont have to worry about people drinking all night and such. Great place to take the family B. hutchies
Re: Okies, I need some input on Lake Tenkiller. Thanks Jeramie, I have been told the lake is beautiful but never been there myself. We will be taking my little 14 foot John boat with a 10 hp motor. Great little boat for trolling, juglines, and just riding around.

Jeramie
Re: Okies, I need some input on Lake Tenkiller. We stay stay at Cherokee Bay. Its actually something like Cherokee slip or something but anyway, its on the north side of the lake. The water is very clear and COLD so I doubt you'll be doing much swimming. You also are really close to the Illinois river and people slay the trout there.
hutchies
Re: Okies, I need some input on Lake Tenkiller. I guaruntee my wife won't swim. She won't even get in Texoma til it reaches mid 70's. I on the other hand will be all off in the water. I love the cold.
bfletch7441
Re: Okies, I need some input on Lake Tenkiller. Definitely run over and hit the Illinois River, below the dam if you can. Check the trout release dates, and you could catch dinner in an hour or so. Ben

People are hooking on a live hopper or something of the sort and when those channels are spawning you can slay them on a flyrod! Ive heard that a couple of times now.... Guest tarbaby
Re: Okies, I need some input on Lake Tenkiller. My grandpa took me and a buddy down there after school got out one year. We had a guided striper trip planned but in stormed the day we were supposed to go. Looked like an awesome lake to camp around though. Does Jimmy Houston still have his store in the area? I think I remember it there. Jason
Jeramie
Re: Okies, I need some input on Lake Tenkiller. Yes, his store is still down there. Its actually been a while since I was there but a year or so ago it was still open. He also has a store in Broken Arrow and its open so im guessing the tenkiller store is still open. CDubWSR
Re: Okies, I need some input on Lake Tenkiller. largmouth, smallmouth, sandies, walleyes, channels, flatheads, blue's, carp and really big carp, crappies black and white, and more perch/bluegills than you can shake a stick at. Plus trout and striper below the ****. I basically spent my entire summers growing up there at my grandparents place. It is a beautiful lake and like jeramie said there are alot of really nice camp grounds with lots of rules so you dont have to worry about too many rowdy people. It is deffinantly a really nice place to take family. Pine Cove, Pettit Bay, Strayhorn Landing, are just a few of the nice places on the south end of the lake. Petit Bay is about halfway up the lake. I think the entire lake is like 17 miles long or something like that with plenty of different branches and coves with nice camping places.
