hey everybody, i am new to the forum, but it seems that alot of people are either shooting or shooting at little deer or spikes... Now i'm not totally against it, but if you have hunted for awhile, "you gotta let em go so they can grow."

Welcome to the forums, but I wouldn't start of my first few posts with one like that. Obviously if you let them go they are going to grow, but not everyone can just let a deer go and be sure it is going to make it through the season. Some people only are able to hunt small portions of land where the neighbors shoot whatever they want. Some people just hunt for the meat.

You hunt the way you hunt, I hunt the way I hunt. As long as it's legal, and you wish to follow all game laws, then I say each to his own. If ya wanna shoot fawns....shoot em. If ya wanna wait on Big Boys, do it. But I will not sit here and criticize a fellow hunter, or even question them about what they choose to LEGALLY harvest. Welcome to the forums by the way. Just so you know, my first three deer were spikes. I have harvested several nice mature bucks since then, but just last year I harvested yet another spike....tasted just as good, IF NOT better than the last ten point I took.

i agree with kyle and shaun.but in some place like here in ny ur luckly if u get a 130 class deer and up here ppl shoot just about anything.and just because the horns are small doesnt mean anything this last season i shot a 4 point with bow that weighed 185 lbs

I think that's a good saying for the disciplined deer hunter, however, i think what matters most is the actual hunt of the animal rather than the size. For instance, I would be more proud of a six point i shot with a bow at 10 yards, than a ten point at 150 yards with the rifle. Why? Because I know i worked hard to harvest that animal, I invested the time, skills, and energy that most hunters don't get to experience by hopping out of the truck and unloading with a 300 win. mag. I'm not bashing QDM by any means, I now practice it myself. What i'm trying to say is that the hunter defines the trophy- amatuer or veteran
