huntn4bucks
Re: beginner at duck huntin...... The rolling feed call is a call that almost every duck hunter wants to master. It sounds cool and it's usually the first thing other hunters ask if you can do but it's not necessary to kill ducks. I personally like Buck Gardner calls and have killed many ducks using his calls. I have one of Buck's instructional CDs and he covers various calls including the rolling feed call. He uses the word "ticka" to produce the rolling feed call. Start out slow and gradually condition your tongue to speed up. All I can say is be patient...it takes time. Learn to master the "quack" first and then advance to the next step. Best of luck. Palssonater
Re: beginner at duck huntin...... I am with Hunt4Bucks. Although the rolling feed call is the "coolest" sounding and the hardest to do, make it one of your last calls to master. Start with your basic quacks and hails. This gets ducks attention and puts them in front of you. Use different combinations of cadences. The single cut(not rolling....tick tick tick) will make em land at your feet. Buck Gardner's instructions are great. I have watched them and used many tips from them. Also, Barnie Calef is good to listen too. I established my rolling feed(double cut) call after I had a solid single cut. I use a combo of ticka ticka or dig-a-dug. This puts the call on a few different levels and sounds like even more ducks. Different styles vary in sound and technique used to make the sounds. Get a call that you are comfortable with and stick with it. As for when is the best time to hunt ducks...when you wake up, and it might be too cold, or too rainy or all around junky weather, THAT is when you want to be out there. I have had lots of success in varying conditions but the Junky days are by far the best. I love the fog!

lil hunter
Re: beginner at duck huntin...... Rolling feed calls are pretty much worthless in the field, they are strictly for competition. The regular feed chuckle is pretty easy. I usually do a... dit da-dit da-dit-dit-dit then switch to ticka-tic tic ticka-tictic not too hard, just gotta practice with it. i bought Take-em 6 and it came with an instructional disc for duck and goose calling. You should check it out, or just buy the duck calling CD from H.S. Waterfowl.
browning_gold_12
Re: beginner at duck huntin...... it has taken me three years to learn how to do a rolling feed call, but i have yet to hear a duck do it. nor have i heard a hen mallard fly over doing a forty note high ball hail call, but they sure do sound cool! Guest gfourhunter
Re: beginner at duck huntin...... it may sound stupid but pratice feeder calling all the time without a call. at work or home or on the road it really helps. feeder calls is the most inportant call of them all. ----------------------------- its called hunting, not killing
