Just wondering if this pistol is a good gun. I have a chance to get a brand new one for real cheap. Never been shot. Just seeing if anyone has had any experience with these pistols. Thanks!

from what i've seen of the GI .45, it looks like a standard springfield 1911. it does have low profile sights, which i did not like, and it has a little nub on the frame that is supposed to be for a lanyard. if you can get a great deal on it, i'm sure it will be a good gun. you can always change the sights if you don't like them

I owned one myself and loved it. I changed the grips on it though because I didn't want to wear out the wooden ones with the GI stamped on it. All around great gun if you are just looking for a 1911 with no frills. Never had a single problem with it. I will say this though, I guess because of it being a GI model, if you loaded hollow points in the clip and tried to chamber a round, it would get stuck on the ramp. After a couple hundred rounds of break in with ball ammo it would feed hollow points normally.

I catagorize the 1911 45:

High end: Wilson Combat, Ed Brown

Medium: Colt, Springfield, Smith

Low end: Lamma

I own a Wilson Combat CQB, Smith 1911PD, 2 Springfield Armory loaded models. One had been tricked out with a Nowak barrel and bushing. The Springfield is by far the best value for the buck. The reviews in guntest magazine have always been the "pick"

True. I've only seen one article where a Springfield was tested and given poor ratings. I believe it was a very old article though.
