Bow Hunter Derek
Re: TEAM #4: Gobbling Thunder Congrats. Not on your team, but I thought I'd chime in. That is a bearded hen. I shot a bearded Osceola down in the Turner River Unit three years ago. Just like you, I wasn't sure at first if it was a hen or a jake. I kept trying to convince myself it was a Jake, until I gutted it and pulled out eggs. For some reason, mine had a very red head just like yours. FYI, I had to enter it in the RT contest too. Look at the good side though, you'll have a shot at the lowest scoring turkey prize. I wish I had preserved my bird for the trip home. Would have made a cool full body mount. I have the small fan and beard on the wall at home. I had a Florida Wildlife official tell me that they didn't have bearded Osceolas when I went to check out of the FWA. You should have seen his jaw drop when I pulled my bird out of the cooler.

Gus
Re: TEAM #4: Gobbling Thunder Hopefully I can get out tomorrow if it isn't raining, my yard sure does need mowing, but I think I can put it off for a few more days . Then this weekend I am going with my cousin down to his place to see if we can't find some birds that will play the game with us.

Gus
Re: TEAM #4: Gobbling Thunder Nice bird, congrats I went out Tuesday afternoon and the wind was horrible, nothing heard or seen. Yesterday afternoon my cousin and I hit 3 different spots and again the wind was not helping us, but we did find some good sign at one of the places. Going to be going to Fredericksburg this weekend so hopefully the weather and the birds both will cooperate. Then I will be out of town for work, but staying at my mom's so maybe I can hit the woods back home a few times and then when I get back home go back out to the place where we found all the scratchings, dust bowls and tracks at my bro-in-laws place

Gus
Congrats on the bird, roadkill10 Didn't have any luck over the weekend, but I am about to head out again right now for an afternoon hunt.
jcwa
Did every one give up on the team.
Gus
I have not gave up yet, the season is not over, but I am not having much luck with the turkeys . We never have many turkeys on our place, but usually by now at least one has hit the ground. The other places that I have permission to hunt don't seem to have the numbers as in the past, but I will be out after them until May 13, hopefully by then I can find at least one that will play the game

Gus
Tonya, am I going to have to come up there and help you call up a big ol gobbler. :D I guess so, because I am sure not having much luck. Went to a new place (an uncles land that I have not been to this year) Sunday afternoon and did finally have one that was answering my calling, but it was late and I think he was probably on the way to the roost. I am going to try and get off work next week so that I can help my mom do some stuff around the house and of course squeeze in some time to try and find a tom that will play the game with me
jcwa
Just let me know. It's only a 4 1/2 hour drive. I wouldn't mind some more turkey time.
rossman
I killed a Tom yesterday but forgot to weigh it before I cut it up. Sorry guys. I have the beard and the spurs but there is no way for me to get a weight. I forgot!!! Also, what's up with the whole notarizing the submission form? Do they not trust anyone? --rossman
jcwa
Send a PM to Strut10 and see what he wants you to do about the weight. You don't have to get the form notarized. you just have to have a witness sign the form.
Gus
Well, so far another busted year for me. Have only had a few toms even answer my calling so far and come dark tonight my season will be over until next year. There is one bird that does a little gobbling late in the afternoons on one side of our place, I am going to try and get him later today, but so far I have not had much luck with him. Maybe that will change on the last day, but I am not giving up on him until dark this afternoon
Gus
Sorry folks, but for the second spring season I have had no luck getting a bird. I did get the bird to answer me a few times Sunday afternoon and I thought I was going to get him to finally give in, but for whatever reason he quit coming my way and headed back the other direction. I had fun trying to get a bird again this year, but sure hope next year I can pull the trigger a time of two
jcwa
Their are only 6 days left in the contest. We have 4 birds down, but only one has been entered. You guy need to get your birds entered.
