Gobblegobblebang
Re: TURKEY TEAM #5 I went for a hike yesterday afternoon and I was there for about 2 hours and I say 2 long beards and 2 jakes. They are not gobbling yet seamed weird to me. I will be taking a youth there the weekend before opener. Nothing beats seeing a kid shoot his or hers first bird. Good Luck everybody Go Team Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AdvantageTimberLou
Re: TURKEY TEAM #5 at least you guys are in the woods, I still have till May 5th to get out, I have a little wait yet!
rhine16
Re: TURKEY TEAM #5 Had one at 30 yards Sat morning. My uncle and i were still arguing that the other would get to shoot when my dad started calling. we decided i would do it, but when my dad started calling he sounded like total crap. So i get a call out to help him. I yelped one time, then looked over at my dad fumbling to find a call that wouldn't squeak. At that time, I heard my uncle say "Rhine there he is". However i just sat still and said you shoot him, but the bird saw my dad's head move to look when my uncle said that. So the bird started putting and kinda walking off and got behind a couple brush piles so we couldn't shoot. We had 7 gobbling. Very very exciting hunt. huntn4bucks
Re: TURKEY TEAM #5 I've been on gobblers for the past 3 days. They're still not gobbling a whole lot but what little reaction I'm getting is enough to make a move. I had the biggest gobbler I've ever seen in my life at 41 steps yesterday and my sister-in-law's husband didn't want to risk the shot. This gobbler was HUGE!!! He did the right thing by not taking a shot that he thought was risky. Even though it was 41 normal steps, it was probably about 37-38 yards...well within my killing range. huntn4bucks
Re: TURKEY TEAM #5 I went back this morning and only saw a hen. This spot doesn't have a high population of turkeys so seeing the single hen was a plus. I'll be back out at the farm on Sat & Sun.

10acboy
Re: TURKEY TEAM #5 Hey everyone - I have some bad news. I just found out that we have lost the right to hunt on the farm. A couple of bad apples ruined it for the whole group. If it is not to late you all should find someone to replace me. I hope that I didn't screw the team over. I am just sick to my stomach about this whole thing. I am going to try to talk with the man that oversees the farm, but it's only two weeks from opening day, and I don't know fellas. I'm sorry. This farm is awesome to hunt too - it was about 5000 acres packed with deer, turkey, rabbit and just about anything that you would like to hunt. Hopefully I will be able to deer hunt there, but I would have to say that turkey season is out. What makes this so bad is that it was a perfect place for my sons because of the amount of wildlife there. I don't know what I am going to do now. AdvantageTimberLou
Re: TURKEY TEAM #5 Hey 10acboy, is there any other land you can hunt on? I want you still on our team and I hope you can experience spring turkey hunting. I hope something works out for you!
10acboy
Re: TURKEY TEAM #5 Thanks Lou, but this was the only farm that I hunted on. I never looked for a backup place to hunt on. I just think that I am outta luck. I have begun looking for other places, but most of them have leases on already or people do not allow hunting. I am still looking. I will leave the decision totally up to you and the team, but please beleive me when I say that I understand if you all want to pick up someone else. I think that it would be in the best interest for everyone on the team. Just don't forget about me when it comes to the prizes when you all win! ilhnter
Re: TURKEY TEAM #5 Anybody having any luck. The season in MO opens next monday, so i'm starting to get pumped. My brother, fiance, and I are going out opening morning and we are going to try and film the hunt. My fiance will get the first crack at a turkey, but I'm sure I'll have my chance. Good luck all! Gobblegobblebang
Re: TURKEY TEAM #5 Well the early youth hunt in Idaho was last weekend and wow did I have a good time. I took two young boys and there fathers out to hunt turkeys. They had a great time. On Saturday I took Brandon to a spot that the year before I had a bird shot out from under me. This time I went in a little deeper and found several gobblers that wanted to play. Brandon had a cold and every time I would get a bird all hot and bothered he would cough and that was the end of it. After chasing birds half way to Montana I decided that we should leave them well enough alone and work them the next day. We left and went to another spot about 10 miles away and got a bird to respond about 2 miles away and high tailed it to his location. We ended up climbing to the top of the same ridge that the gobbler was and started to work him. It did not take long and he was on his way in to our setup. I could see him display and move in from about 300 yards. It only took him about 5 minutes to come in. Brandon could not see very well due to a stump eye level to him. When he did see him he stayed calm and collected I told him that if he coughed it would be the end of the show he did well and at 28 foot steps I told him he could take him when ever he wanted and he did. Perfect hit the gobbler fell in his tracks and didn’t even twitch. What a great day. When I figure out how to post pics I will put them on here. The next day was Zack’s turn and we did much of the same as the day before but we got into some jakes and worked them for about 45 min and Zack got a shot at one and missed him. We worked several more birds that day but there is something about 11 year old boys that make them move around and every time I would get a bird to come in no matter how much I would tell him to keep still the bird would see him and we were busted. That’s turkey hunting. If it were easy we would not do it. Fun was had by all. All in all we had a great time and I highly recommend that everyone take a kid hunting it will change your life. Season opens for me the 15 of April and you know were I’ll be in heaven I love to hunt Dear God thank you for the time you give us in the woods. Gobblegobblebang
Season opener Last Sunday was our opener and I thought that it would be great. I was wrong I hiked into my spot witch was the normal way I thought people hunt. but no I was set up and giving a few tree purrrrs and in drove a truck to within 100 yards of me and stopped owl called once and turkeys gobbled and they started to call and the birds went right to them. I was pissed. They shot twice and the birds scattered 20 min later they called again and shot 8 more times. I was not a happy camper. Next year I will fall some trees a crossed the road. People like that do not work for the birds should not have as good of luck. They probably road hunt on there 4 wheelers to but daunt get me started on that one. Good luck to all. Heading to north Idaho Thursday to get a bird. Go Team Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gobblegobblebang
One Shot One Kill!!!!!!!!!! I was able to go up North to hunt this last weekend and I shot a respectable bird. I will have the stats on the other check in site. What a great hunt my hunting partner and I were able to talk two long beards into flying a crossed thee Clearwater River and that was the first and last mistake that they made I had never seen birds fly that far they flew about 150 to 175 yards over to use. I will hold off a little longer the next time that I go up North because I could have gotten a better bird but I am used to getting skunked and took the shot. He did not like the decoys that we had out and I was forced to shoot him at 63 yards, dropped him like a sack of potatoes. He started to flop after about five min. We had two birds coming in and thought that we may be able to take the other as well. I hope that everyone else is having as much if not more fun then me. Good Luck to all. We were actually on the 2nd page with no activity for a week!! What's up team? My season starts Monday, May 7th! Good luck to everyone else! Gobblegobblebang
I was thinking the same thing Lou, Do we still have a team? Iknow that you are starting on the 7th but I have not heard from anyone on this team for weeks. I have PMed every body and the only one I have heard from was huntin4bucks he was not doing so well the last time I talked to him. maybe he will give us an update. I go for my second bird this Sunday and my 3rd in Oregon the last week of the mounth. Have a good one. Lee, Go Team Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ilhnter
I've had no luck. We've been hunting only a few times and we have heard a bird gobble both times, but he was a good ways off. We are restricted to the acreage we have access to so we couldn't go after them. This is the last weekend in MO so i will be out there both saturday and sunday. Hopefully we'll have some luck. Good luck everyone!

Good luck everyone! Sometimes even when you hear them off in the distance, just have some patience. That old Tom might hear you and slowly walk your way. Its almost like deer hunting, sometimes just sitting and waiting is better than running and gunning!! Good luck this weekend, wish you the best! Sounds like Lee is having a blast this season! Good luck team! Lou
Gobblegobblebang
OOO Yessss this year is turning out to be very nice. I just love to hunt in the spring. On those birds that you hear a long way off you may try getting as close to the location as fast as you can in the morning (you may have to jog or walk very fast but close the distance) and sit down and call very soft so the birds can hear you as if you were only 100 yards away. When he hears you he will know that you are there and sooner or later (Usually later) he will come in to your set-up after he is finished servicing his hens. Take a good book and maybe a mini blind so if he comes in quiet he will not see you turning the pages. They call this hunting for a reason. If it was called killing I do not think that it would be as fun. Being in the woods is one of the coolest things that our creator has provided for us to do. My wife tells me that I should go and live in the woods, but I would miss her so I do not. Good luck to all and have fun out there. huntn4bucks
Well guys, I had a lot of obstacles in front of me this spring and was unable to score on a gobbler. This is the first time in a very, very long time that I've gone without taking a gobbler. I don't have any out-of-state trips planned this year so it looks like my season is over. Congrats to those that have scored and best of luck to those yet to start hunting.
