rhine16
Sorry that i was unable to kill a tom this year. My season ended 8 days ago. This year was definitely a down year for me. I didn't get to hunt much because of games on saturdays and heavy rain stunted a few weekends. This morning as I was leaving my grandads on the way to school I saw one strutting in a cotton field on my place. I never hunted that farm, because of a lack of woods on our place. Made me sick to see him. Once again, i'm sorry.

AdvantageTimberLou
I went out yesterday and the mosquitoes were unreal!! 85 degrees, warmest it has ever been in early May. I even decided to take my bow with me!! That is my goal, to get one with a bow. My buddy and I seen 3 Toms but they were 100 yards off. We closed some distance, set up a decoy and tried calling. Nothing! They took off the other way or were just super quiet. Then as the hunt ended that night we hit the call and could hear distant gobblers! Go figure!! Maybe as warm as it was they weren't on the move but at least we seen and heard them. I have till May 31st and hope to close the deal. Gotta better place to try this weekend. Gobblegobblebang
Keep up the hard work. Looks like you are getting into the birds. It is hot here to. If you can get in front of those gobblers you may have a chance at ambushing them. That is what I had to do last year in Oregon. I found 4 gobblers in the bottom of a draw and they did not want to play. So I ran up the other side of this ridge and up to the top then went straight down to the same logging road but higher up the Mt. I was able to get in front of them and I was able to seal the deal with the last gobbler in the group he was the biggest. When I shot him, the first bird was only 5 feet from me and the last was 20 yards. It was hot that day and they would hardly gobble. As my hunting buddy Lombard would say "You have to put the ninja sneak on them" and that is just what I was able to do. Have fun out there and shoot them in the face. Go Team Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AdvantageTimberLou
Well team Turkey Snipers, my season is over, ended yesterday and no turkey to show for it. Just a tag that didn’t get filled and not sure even salt added to it will taste any good. On the bright side, my hunting partner/best friend got one last week, a 9 ½” beard, 21 pound gobbler. This gobbler had been giving us the slip for most of May and was only showing up at his place while he was at work, his wife would always fill us in on how close he was to the house and we should have been there. When we hunted that bird he always was henned up and never came our way, they don’t get big by being STUPID!!!! Well my buddy took last Friday off from work and at 11AM that tom met his maker!! Beautiful bird. At least this season, most of the times I hunted I either seen birds or heard them, that is what makes going each time encouraging whether I had a bead on a bird or not. One thing I did learn this past season in Michigan with the warmer than usual weather for May, a Thermacell is a lifesaver. I was a skeptic but after getting bit up alive on a hunt I bought one. NEVER again will I hunt without one. NEVER!! They are awesome and they do work and they work rather quickly. Pure genius’s that made that product. A must have for all turkey and deer hunters that have to deal with skeeters!! If you don’t have one get one or put it on your wish list! A must have item!! Sorry I could not get a bird for the team but I had fun and I hope all of you did too. Was a pleasure being on your team and congrats to the successful hunters here on Realtree.com. Who knows maybe this fall we might get paired up for the deer hunting contest. Take care Turkey Snipers and enjoy your summer and get out those bows and get ready for deer hunting in 4 months!!
