dogdoc
Re: TURKEY TEAM #6 / Gobbler Gang well guys---opening day tomorrow and I'm taking off work. I don't really know what to expect we have a cold front that has moved in with North winds---this usually shuts down the gobblers for a while but if you ain't huntin' you ain't killin'

dogdoc
Re: TURKEY TEAM #6 / Gobbler Gang no luck so far. Went out friday--called in a few toms across the creek but couldn't get them to actually cross the creek--i need waders to get to them and it was just too darn cold to cross and get wet. We located a really nice longbeard with two hens. We were able to get within 60 yards but couldn't call the tom off the hens--he actually bred a hen while we were trying to get him. We worked on him for over 2 hours with no luck. Will be going again on WED.

deer huntin k-man
Re: TURKEY TEAM #6 / Gobbler Gang Good luck Doc!! I have just under a month until my season. Getting more snow tomorrow night. I realy dont like that. This horrible weather we have been having here is realy messing with my birds. Have not yet heard a gobble this year and have only seen 3 jakes while scouting. I cant even find tracks where they usually are this time of year. I guess I have some more walking to do before my season gets here.
dogdoc
Re: TURKEY TEAM #6 Well guys--not a huge one but at least it is a score. Went out this morning and did not see or hear a bird. Changed locations and at around noon I finally got a very distant gobble. I couldn't get him to come in so I started walking away and calling. I think he thought the hen was leaving so he finally started heading my way. We were at the property line so I couldn't go after him. After about 15 minutes of calling I finally got him within 10 yards. I then passed the shot b/c he was a young bird. Then I noticed he was hopping on one leg--the other leg was just dangling. I then decided if I didn't take him he would probably be coyote food in a few days. I ended up taking about a 15 yard shot and he dropped in his tracks. At least it's a score for the team and should be some GREAT eating. BTW--he had a fractured femur (thigh bone). It was a fresh fracture b/c there was fresh blood around the break. The skin had not been damages so I guess it was some type of injury. todd
deer huntin k-man
Re: TURKEY TEAM #6 Nice job Dogdoc! Dont worry about the size because he sure will taste good. You did the right thing in taking him before the coyote's did. Is there anyone else with a season open right now? If so good luck on your hunts! christsavedme
Good luck everyone....went yesterday and had a total bust. Haven't got to hunt that much this season with work and everything, but noticed that last two trips that our birds have got a case of lock jaw. Not real sure what the problem is, but sure hope it doesn't last long! Looks like it will be about another week or so before I get to head back out for them again! Owell, best of luck to everyone!
