Re: TURKEY TEAM #7

Well guys I went out this morning to listen for some birds and it turned out great!! We heard about 3 or 4 gobblers on the roost this morning in one spot. I decided to move to check out another location and much to my suprise the birds were already out in the field! One monster longbeard, 5 jakes, and about 20 hens. I watched them for about 15 minutes as they strutted and gobbled. Then at about 9am I was driving home and saw 4 longbeards walking along a fence row where I can hunt. The one longbeard was probably the biggest turkey I have ever seen. My buddy and I got some video of the birds this morning and I will try to post it as soon as I can.

Well our regular season starts April 6th. I've found a few birds on public land and have some private to hunt on also.

I'll be takeing my son Cole out this weekend for our states first youth turkey season. We've got a good tom spotting and pretty well patterned for the morning hunt on Sat. Hopefully he'll get his first bird.

Good Luck All !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! smile.gif

Re: TURKEY TEAM #7

Jo and I hit the woods this weekend for the end of crow season on saturday and trout season sunday!

The crows kicked our but...again! They are too smart this late in the season . We need a mojo deke of some sort.

ANYWAY...

We saw no turkeys, but lots of sign. The locals said they are gobbling in the AM. We will soon see.

Re: TURKEY TEAM #7

I went out this morning to the usual spot expecting to see the same lone longbeard. But when I got there 6 more longbeards were coming out of the woods. The group of 6 beat the heck out of the first gobbler. It was neat to see a turkey fight involving 7 longbeards. I also saw a bearded hen. Anyways thats where I will be the first week of the season for sure.

Re: TURKEY TEAM #7

Cole and I went out for the youth hunt and didn't have any luck at all. They weren't gobbling .

Hopefully they will be fired up Friday for the opener. We have a cold front moving in this week so I have no idea what is going to happen. It's been in the 70s and 80s for the last 2 weeks and the highs for the nest five days are in the 50s and lows in the 30s.

No matter what the weather I'll be out there friday and saturday and sunday morning till about 9:00 (EASTER SUNDAY)

Good luck !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: TURKEY TEAM #7

Good luck everyone! Wish I was a youth...then I could hunt a little earlier....Haven't been out much to look around for the turkeys. Weather turning very cold and ugly for the rest of the week and custodial wants me to work next week so who knows when I'll get out to scout...I'll find the time though.

Well tomarrow is our opener and we now have about 3 inches of snow on the ground. It's gonna be 32 in the morning and a high of 57. and then for Fri. night 27 and a high Sat. of only 47.

It's gonna be crazy, don't have a clue how the birds are gonna be acting.

Well I've got to go dig out all my deer hunting clothes for this weekend.

Wish me luck and Good Luck to all of you. See ya soon (hopefully with some pics wink.gif)

This week is suppose to warm up so I'm hoping to get out and scout some..ok alot! lol Then not this coming weekend but the next is the youth hunt weekend...I hope it doesn't mess up any scouting I do on state land...I don't think anyone will be hunting the private land here at home...with 1 gobbler and a few hens...he's one tough bird to get. Hey Joe....any idea what the birds do after the youth hunt? I know youh ave your own land to hunt but I'm just wondering if they are going to get really pressured that weekend or not..?

Re: TURKEY TEAM #7

Just ckeckin in with some good news. We made it up to do a little driving around our turkey spot yesterday and saw several nice birds. They were displaying pretty good even with it snowing out. Then today I got even better news. Even with not having enough time on the job, my supervisor is letting me take the first two days of the season off from work. So that upped my chances of success a ton since most the birds I kill are in the afternoon during my working hours. I guess working hard does pay off when you want a favor.:D

Re: TURKEY TEAM #7

Well the birds haven't been very vocal around here. But I got some good news this evening, a buddy of mine left work early today around 1:30 and when he got home there were 16 turkeys in a pasture where we deer hunt. He said he got out of his truck and did a yelp with his mouth and 8 of them gobbled back at him.

Man I'm pumped now!!!!! We've gotten another round of storms due in around 12:00 tomarrow and then another cold front with more snow and cold rain.

I'll be out in the morning and then all day Sat. and part of sunday. I'll be checking back in soon. Hopefully with atleast a good story wink.gif

Good luck Dwin!!

Youth hunt is 6 days away.. heard a few birds gobbling across the street from my school on Thursday evening.. Pretty cool to listen.. They had hens with them that were yelping and cutting and setting them off.. Found a pretty nice flock of birds on our property upstate.. Just gotta figure out where they're roosting and I'm in business.. Got the Mossberg all patterned and ready to roll. The bow isn't ready yet. :(

I had teacher conferences that night at Joes school, and after we were done, in the parking lot of the school, we were fooling with the turkeys roosted accrss the road. Parents leaving slamming their car doors were making those birds gobble thier heads off. Joe and I trying to make turkey sounds without calls...getting crazy looks from parents leaving and them not having ANY idea of what we were doing. It did get me fired up for the season though.

As Joe said lots of sign on and around our land. We are feeling confidant.
