WestKyTeacher
Re: TURKEY TEAM #9 It has been too hot too early here as well. However, we are fixing to hit a cold snap in the weather for the next week. Season opens April 14th for me so I'm getting really excited. I have been watching numerous hens in the yard daily, but no toms or jakes. The hens even get within 15 yards of the house, crazy!

dosse
Re: TURKEY TEAM #9 Hang in there with em everybody. I have been 2 or 3 times since i killed that turkey but havent had anyluck, i just read the rules and saw that you can only enter the first turkey you kill so i guess i have done all i can do. I have been getting pics of a bird on one place that i hunt that is probably a better bird than the one i got. But i will still post him up if i can ever get him, he seems to just randomly show up between 12:00-6:00 in the afternoon. I hunted him this morning and left at nine to drive back for an 11 o clock class and my grandfather called me at one and said he pulled in the gate and he was standing there by my camera. He will be in trouble if he doesnt change his pattern by the weekend cause i aint ashamed to wait him out. Im ready for all of yalls seasons to open so i can start seeing some jelly heads. Good Luck to everybody getting out this week and weekend

hoyt_hunter
Re: TURKEY TEAM #9 i got him on april 1st, it was myself, another friend who was also bowhunting, and another friend. Evening hunt, got setup where we thought they would roost on some public land 8 miles from where i live. I mouth called twice and got a response. Then i really worked it and got them really fired up. Three jakes came in and i took the 1st one at 20 yards, and then another shot at 40 yards . the first time i shot him a little low when he was facing me, and the next shot was a good body shot. It was a great hunt for me, i finally got one with my bow!
iabow
Re: TURKEY TEAM #9 Congrats and there is no need to feel sorry about a trophy my friend. Sounds like you had great time. I’m curious about your setup, looks similar to mine. I'm shooting a Vtec, kwike quiver, s-coil, spitfires and truball tornado. I'm also working on my first bow bird after 2 years. First year I shaved a huge tom. I rushed the shot because I was kneeling in the open with a group looking my direction. It was a Dooh moment. WestKyTeacher
Well guys, all I have seen is a bunch of hens. I have hens all around me, but have yet to see a Tom. The one I was watching before season just vanished. Hopefully I'll have better luck as the season goes on.
iabow
Well Guys I have some bad news to share. First off I have asked Strut10 to replace me with an alternate, not because I want to but because it's only fair to you guys. Sunday morning I went scouting to the place I told you about before. It was a beautiful morning with some good gobbling coming from where I pegged them. I listened and scouted around for a while with good results, nothing changed and things were set for the opener. Now the bad news I had taken my grandpas .22 ruger pistol with me incase I spotted a yote or some wild dogs. When I got back to the truck, thinking I'd shoot my bow, while I was unloading the gun with it on safe and away from me it happened. POP. What had happened was as I was pulling the bolt back and it was stiff pulling so I pulled with a little more force to eject the shell. Well my hand on the bolt slipped which caused my other hand that was holding the gun to move to my left, towards my foot. How the gun actually went off I don't know for sure, I keep playing it out in my mind but still don't know (beings it was on safe). I found out today that this gun has miss-fired before, so maybe that was it, I don't know. As you have gathered, I shot myself in my left foot half way up. I heard the pop and my foot just felt like it went fat. I took my boot off to check if I really did it and left a nice blood trail, thankfully I was right by the truck. I took off the shoelace and made a tourniquet around my ankle. Off I went doing 60mph to the blacktop, about 85mph on the blacktop. A couple miles down the road to the hospital I passed a guy walking and as soon as I passed him I started to get narrow vision. So I turned around and asked the guy to take me, thank God he said yes. I didn't want to hurt anyone else by driving. I was shaking pretty bad on the way, so I kept asking the guy questions to keep me alert and active. On the way which felt like the slowest 90mph ever I called my family about what happened, all I keep getting was "you what". They didn't believe I would be the one to do something like this, because I'm one of those safety conscious people in all things. It was sort of funny every person family and friend said the same thing. They thought it would have been my dad not me. Talk about feeling stupid. Anyways the bullet went through and hit my second toe bone going through. I asked the doctor today if it would be ok for me to go hunt but he said because I hit bone I'll probably be laid up for a while and I can't chance getting it infected. If it was only meat I could in 2-3 weeks, so much for my aim. This was the first time for surgery, IVs, stitches, passing out and such for me. I thank God the man decided to walk that way that day, he said normally he don't, just that day and the right surgeon had just come in for a special appointment and traffic was light. Thank God people were praying for me. But Strut10 said he'll find a replacement for me, I would like to know if it would be ok if I still talked with you guys and sort of live my season out by you guys? I can probably post some pictures of the x-ray if you would like? Anyway BE SAFE out there and good hunting.
WestKyTeacher
WOW!! All that and you're thinking about us!?! Sit back and take it easy....I'm just glad you're alright. You are always welcome in here, if I've learned one thing about these forums, it's that everyone is family! Get well and keep posting on how it's going! dosse
Sorry to hear that, thank goodness you were not more seriously injured. I had a friend shoot his toe off in a similar manner with a shotgun. Definitely stick around and maybe you can still get some enjoyment out of the season. Strut10
I am waiting to hear back from the alternate who is next in line to get a spot. I'll give him until morning. Then I move on to the next one. I'll have a contestant for your team shortly.
iabow
Thanks you guys, I appreciate it and yes family I agree. I'll try to get a picture of the x-ray up for you guys. I will enjoy hearing some stories and seeing some pictures of the big boys you guys take! and the ones you don't. The experience is what really counts out there, don't you agree? I guess it will just be one more year for them to get bigger on my end. Strut10 Thanks again.
WestKyTeacher
Well team, still no toms or jakes! I see several hens everyday about 20 yards away, but none of the big boys. On my way to work this morning there were 8 right on the side of the road. One nice tom, one jake, and 6 hens. I'm still after them.
