Exturkinator
Re: TURKEY TEAM #15 Ranger - with that kind of turkey count, the gobblers are there... they are still grouped up away from the hens - I'll bet there are several old gobblers there (that's also probably why the twiggie bearded jakes are grouped up too). I'd be hunting that farm in a heartbeat - I'll bet you just found a gold mine....

My traditional home stomping grounds has suffered severely to coyote predation. Five to six years ago all three of us would bag a bird on opening day. Since then we havn't killed a bird all season in the last 3 years on that hill.
Exturkinator
Re: TURKEY TEAM #15 Yesterday, with a little snow on the ground (I like to scout during the late snows of the winter/early spring because it's easy to see where the tracks are and where they go...) I went out to the same spot that I killed a nice bird last year - saw 2 hens and 2 jakes (I think I killed their daddy last year!) so I know birds are still there - hopin there's a mature gobbler there too! Griz
Re: TURKEY TEAM #15 Well team, our opener started this past Friday but I had to work... But this morning (EasterSunday) I went out for the first time. I walked into an area where I had been seeing 3 long beards and thought I would give it a try for a bit. As I walked to the tree that I was going to set up at. I sat my shotgun down and was going to easy out and set my decoys up. When I stepped out from the tree line to the field about 3 yards, the turkeys that I was going to hunt were roosted in the tree right above me and flew off. I stopped to listen for a sec. and easy back to the base of the tree and sat down. As it started to get get light enough for the birds to start flying down. There wasn't one gobble. Not even a yelp... I went ahead and casted out some soft yelps but nothing... I sat there for a good 2 hours and no bird... I have been busted... I knew in my heart that, this hunt was pretty much over... After that I had to head home and get cleaned up for a big family get together... Well what can I say... So close...But yet so far away... I'll get'em next time... Good Luck to all... Griz...
RangerClay
Re: TURKEY TEAM #15 I was driving into work this morning when some black puff balls caught my attention. I slowed down and was able to count 8 toms at full strut. Boy I wish I permission to hunt that place. Only 21 days till season is here and I can hardly wait

Exturkinator
Hello gents - sorry for the little hiatus... I hunted 4 days in TN for the opener without killing a gobbler. I should have taken a nice mature gobbler that was roosted 75 yards across a field directly in front of me, but some knucklehead tromped in right at daybreak and yelped on a box call for 30 minutes straight without stopping once - he had every bird within 3 miles gobbling its head off on the roost, when they finally flew down they scattered like mad. A big cold front came in and the birds shut up and holed up in heavy cover - I was able to call several fairly close but was unable to get them in the crosshairs in the brush - had a lot of fun though and certainly learned a lot. MI season opens next week, and I'm planning a return visit to TN for May. As my 4 yr old daughter says - "we're never giving up on the turkey birds".
