NiteRunner
Re: TURKEY TEAM #26 U.S.A. - Scouting Trip Went Sunday Morning nnd didn't hear a Gobble! Disappointing really, I've been wanting to hear them big boys sound off to. We started off the morning with a good rain shower as we were walking to the woods to listen and we Owl hooted but nothing. Walked close to where they roosted last year and hooted, nothing. I grabbed my call and let a few clucks and yelps and just got Chewed out by a few hens! They weren't far away either, but whatever I told them they didn't like and they just kept on running their mouths even after we were leaving! My Dad and I thought we could hear a Far Far away Gobble, but not sure. Saw 3 coon on the way out too! We got out in time to get into another woods and seen some tracks but no Turkeys. It was really raining now though so we couldn't hear the greatest. So since they all should be off roost we drove around looking in fields and while cruising along...Right There 1..no 2!!! So we stop on the road and get the binocs up and one is a Tom...But he takes off running!! Why...Well that other bird, also a Tom, is just a chasing him down the field! Go, Go, Go!!! lol He wanted to cross the road and get the heck out of dodge! Both birds stopped about 50-75 yards from the road and while it didn't look like they had real long beards, the one that was obviously the Boss Bird had a Huge Body, over 20pounds for sure. They didn't gobble though...But at least I got to see some!
mo_hunter
Re: TEAM #26: U.S.A. Good Luck! No luck last weekend, didn't see anything Sat. Went to a different spot on Sun. Lots of gobbling on the roost, not so much on the ground. We saw 5 hens 2 had beards 1 was about 7 or 8 inches long> She was getting ready for the shot and 4 jakes came in following the hens and we got busted, no shot. I don't know if they saw us or the wild movement from the decoys spoked them. 29 mile an hour wind gusts. It was a good time even tho no dead bird. NiteRunner
Hey Team! Season started Today!! Been seeing some Long Beards around, but my Dad had to work today so we couldn't stay out long at all. We scouted the are last night and seen a nice long beard and a jake, so we pinpointed where they were heading for roost and backed out. Got in there this morning and set up right by some hens. However the gobblers we not very vocal what so ever on roost. THey would gobble good when some ducks started quacking but they really didn't talk much. The hens however were hammering the call! Flew down right in front of us too. There's a few there though, might try for them again tomorrow. I also seen 2 long beards behind my house! Just an hour after legal shotting time too! One's a big bushy bearded one too, older bird by the looks of it. On a side note, I was able to help call in a Jake for a first time turkey hunter! Story and Pics in the Turkey Room!
