Re: flying to roost

Pretty sure I have heard mutiple birds fly up close to the same time but in different trees. My guess would be that if they are flying up real close together to roost on limbs very close to each other, they might need a little room. Just a guess.

Something about the one at a time that I have noticed that is almost kind of humorous is watching turkeys fly across a river. Most of the time when I have watched them, they go single file and go one at a time.

Re: flying to roost

I imagine they fly up one at a time (I've seen multiple birds in the air at one time going up) because they have not yet devised a signal to synchronize their movements.

"O.K. guys.....when I cluck to 3.......everybody fly up!!" grin.gif

Might also be nice to not have another 20 lb. bird beating right up against you when you're trying to hit a limb.

Re: flying to roost

If you get a chance to pattern the bird in your hunting area I am sure that you will find that the dominate birds both gobblers and boss hens will go up and fly down in order of there dominance in the flock. Then again nothing a turkey does is for sure. So maybe STRUT10 is correct. If you are a good enough caller ask them next time your in the woods.
