Buckslayer
Re: flying to roost Maybe the most dominent birds get the best spots, so they single file it??? Dunno, but I guess you're pretty much right they do generally go up one at a time. Never thought about it much though. Good luck finding an answer. jbeck
Re: flying to roost They want to see if the limbs are going to hold before they fly up. LOL They usually send the fat ones up first. Why is the word abreviate so long?
Buckslayer
Re: flying to roost Jeff, so what you're sayin is, I should let my 300 lb. cousin walk out on the ice first... essentially?
wtnhunt
Re: flying to roost Pretty sure I have heard mutiple birds fly up close to the same time but in different trees. My guess would be that if they are flying up real close together to roost on limbs very close to each other, they might need a little room. Just a guess. Something about the one at a time that I have noticed that is almost kind of humorous is watching turkeys fly across a river. Most of the time when I have watched them, they go single file and go one at a time.

Strut10
Re: flying to roost I imagine they fly up one at a time (I've seen multiple birds in the air at one time going up) because they have not yet devised a signal to synchronize their movements. "O.K. guys.....when I cluck to 3.......everybody fly up!!" Might also be nice to not have another 20 lb. bird beating right up against you when you're trying to hit a limb. slaw
Re: flying to roost The only thing I've seen them in sinc was gobble sometimes, it's like going to bed around here i don't think any of us go to bed at the same time around here. Born2Hunt
Re: flying to roost Could you imagin 10 birds trying to land on the same limb at the same time. Feathers would be flying for sure.
Gobblegobblebang
Re: flying to roost If you get a chance to pattern the bird in your hunting area I am sure that you will find that the dominate birds both gobblers and boss hens will go up and fly down in order of there dominance in the flock. Then again nothing a turkey does is for sure. So maybe STRUT10 is correct. If you are a good enough caller ask them next time your in the woods. ranchand99
Re: flying to roost Same reason 2 people don't generally walk through a door at the same time...but once in a while you'll get someone rude who will come through the door at the same time. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
