Re: My house progress

Please don't send pics of people in shorts until after June 1st. It's 35-50 miles per hour wind and currently 26 without wind chill.

PS: Any deer in the timber behind the house?

Re: My house progress

Funny how many of you guys from up North keep asking about a basement. We could have one if we wanted, but there's no need for one. Too much digging anyway. Maybe if we lived on a piece of property that was sloped, but ours is FLAT.

I don't know hardly ANYONE around here who has a basement. confused.gif

Oh, and sorry about the pics of shorts. We warm up rather early down here. crazy.gif

I don't know why we don't have them. Humidity level maybe? And yes, there would be lots of digging. Basements go IN the ground, don't they??

Re: My house progress

Depends on the types of basement. Our old house the basement was completely underground with only enough sticking above ground for small windows to bring in light. Our current basement is more garage like 3 of the walls are underground and the one wall is dug out to make a driveway leading to the garage doors. Main reason people have basements are for storage (laundry, garage, workshop, etc.), some finish their basements and have living spaces down there, others have them for security from bad storms like tornados and wind related storms, etc. Basements have a lot of useages and abilities. I know Florida when I lived there for a month nobody had basements that I met while there. Main reason was a lot of places didn't allow them, others didn't have good ground for them, others just simply felt they didn't need a basement. I see nothing wrong with not having a basement. Up here it's standard houses are built with basements most of the time. When I was in Florida it was standard to not have them.

Re: My house progress

Looks great - congrats on the new pad... Guess you'll be ready for all of us to come to the house warming party by around July?

It has been 20 years since I've seen a Green Machine - those things are so cool - I had one when I was a kid and loved it - one day I ran the thing up underneath a car and ended up with a gash on my right forearm - still have the scar....

Re: My house progress

Looks like it is coming along nicely Andrea. Not sure about where you are, but the water table is pretty high in some areas in Florida. I know we hit water drilling a shallow well in central Florida to run sprinklers at like 9-10 feet. Ended up stopping at 16 feet, and had a good water supply. There were no basements in any homes I knew of in that area of Florida.
