ThethirdI
I've got an old Iver Johnson 16ga. that I picked up at an auction. It's the Champion model single shot break action. Anybody know what one of these things is worth. I was more intrigued by the gun than anything. I'll probably never even shoot it but it looks really cool and still has the original stock, forearm and butt plate on it. Just wondered if anyone knew anything about these. Thanks! Strut10
Re: Iver Johnson 16ga.? Iver Johnson Champions are good old shotguns (they were also made in .44 & .45 caliber rifles). They were made from 1909 to 1956. There are a good many of them still around. In excellent condition, they list for $125. I inherited my grandad's I.J. 12 ga. He bought it new the year he got married......1929.
ThethirdI
Re: Iver Johnson 16ga.? Thanks Strut. I think I paid about $60.00 for it, but it's not in mint condition. It's got a lot of use on it. Your Location says West-Central PA. Are you close to Greenville by any chance?

ThethirdI
Re: Iver Johnson 16ga.? Most of my wifes family lives in Greenville and Hadley. Just curious. I killed my first whitetail in Crawford County on my father-in-laws property.
terry264
Re: Iver Johnson 16ga.? My cousin has one of these shotguns(getting back on the subject, ha), the Iver Johnson I think it's the Champion. Anyway, it's marked full taper choke and it is the tightest shooting shotgun I have ever seen, especially without being modified. He has won more turkeys, ham, bacon, etc. at "shoots" with this gun than you can imagine. Would like to have one for turkey shoots myself because around here you are not allowed to modify a gun for the shoot or use special fullerthanfull screw-in chokes for the match. Strut10
Re: Iver Johnson 16ga.? Grandad's I.J. shoots well with 2 3/4" winchesters. It's not like my full-blown turkey guns, by any means. But it would definitely level a gobbler to 30 yards all day long. The barrel on that gun just says "Choke Bore".
terry264
Re: Iver Johnson 16ga.? My point exactly. One cannot use "full blown turkey guns" which are designed for shooting very tight, at a turkey shoot. You have to use a gun that is "as is" from the factory and not a designated modern type turkey gun. Haven't been to a shoot for a couple years and since all this new ported/overbored stuff has been around, maybe they have modified their rules to allow some of the new designs. Will have to check. ohiobuckhunter
Re: Iver Johnson 16ga.? I sold an I J 16 ga. about a month ago for $100 and it was all original in good cond. but not great.
ThethirdI
Re: Iver Johnson 16ga.? The one I have says Choke Bore Barrel on it. I haven't shot it so I don't know what kind of groups it would make.
