I have been hunting for 32 years and finally decided to try bow hunting!! I didn't go all out I bought a used bow ( PSE NOVA) and a new rest W/B picked up a few sticks ( easton ) and am starting to shoot a little . Got to get used to the release... I am hitting pretty good at about 20 to 25 yards.. season don't open till september so i'll have plenty of time to practice!!!

Welcome to the wondeful world of archery!!! You're definitely gonna love it. Definitely make an effort to practice with & try different broadheads and if you're hunting out of a treestand, practice from a stand or if your hunting from a blind, practice from a bind.

Also, be sure to work on range estimating skills. There always isn't time to pull out the rangefinder. wink.gif

I been hunting since 1975! Never bowhunted until 2005! Seprember of 2004 I got my first hunting bow, and practiced for an entire year! Been around a lot of people all these years that hunted with a bow, but never tried it. Now that I started, I cant wait for September!!! I even got my father to get a Xbow so we can hunt more deer with each other! Which is so nice that we can spend more time with each other!

But yeah, I was a 30 year ROOKIE! I know the feeling you have. Take your time, and practice, practice, and practice some more!!! Learn to always shoot the same way each time you pick up your bow, form. There is a lot to learn! There is a lot of good people in here to help, any questions just ask!

Re: 32 YEAR ROOKIE

You'll love it. It can be some of the most relaxing and enjoyable times and then it can be some of the most frustrating when things don't work out. But stick with it and practice, practice, practice. I'm 35 and have been bowhunting since I was 13. If there's one thing I've learned it is when you think you've practiced enough and think you can't miss... Practice more. Using different stand heights, distances, angles. Because you never know when or where that deer might come from. Welcome to the archery life.
