Guest RisingSunOutdoors
One of my goals as a bowhunter/ archer is to get kids involved in archery. After over a year of working in this my goal has become an accomplishment. I worked on getting the principal, at the school I am assigned to, to agree to allow the coaches to go to training to become BAIs. She did! I got the coaches on board and in Oct. 2006 TP&W to certify our coaches/PE teacher as BAI. Thurs. was our first day that students lined up on the shooting line and shot bow at our school as part of the PE classes. By the end of the school year there will be about 800 students that will have been introduced to archery at the middle school. Today I met with an elementary PE teacher and March 26-30 I will be teaching archery to at least 100 5th graders and 100 4h graders. One of the things the school district and the police department asked me when I went back in to the schools, was what kind of program did I want to start. They were thinking some type of drug awareness, but I said, “Archery in the School.” The faces were priceless…you would of thought I pulled out my pistol and fired a round in the air. I told the admin that the kids already know about drugs. I wanted to start a program that every kid could participate in and a program that they could pursue on a collegiate level or even Olympic level. Plus it could keep them occupied and away from the drugs and alcohol, so I didn't have to teach about them. I'm excited to get this going in our school district! [/ QUOTE ] Typical response these days. Kids these days need something like this for sure. Sure beats many of the alternatives they have these days. Keep up the good work. Guest RisingSunOutdoors
Re: Archery in the Schools I'm pretty excited about it. I talked to a elementary PE teacher this evening and it looks like I'll working with 5th graders March. 26-30. She was excited that I asked if I could do thois for her school... Gobble...that is awesome! I sure would like to get another NASP archery kit. The schools on a tight budget and hard for them to come up with the funds for a kit. I would like to have a traveling kit so i can go to the elem. schools when the other kit is being used.
Squirrelhunter91
Re: Archery in the Schools That is awesome!! We had it at the secondary school I attended the past two years. I never shot at school because I'd have a teacher trying to tell me about archery when I know I know alot more than the teacher. Plus if I wanted to shoot my bow, I would just go home and shoot my Browning Rage.

Jeramie
Re: Archery in the Schools Awesome! That is a great accomplishment! People have a heart attack at the thought of flinging an arrow yet they have no problems with a kid sitting behind a game console shooting, blood, gore, etc... You did good.
