Ravin R10 man
Im thinkin nascar has these races fixed... Montoya spins Pruett, wins Mexico NBS race Colombian rookie earns first NASCAR victory with win By Ioan Grillo, The Associated Press March 4, 2007 06:36 PM EST type size: + -MEXICO CITY -- Juan Montoya spun teammate Scott Pruett to take the lead with eight laps left, then held off Denny Hamlin to win the Telcel-Motorola 200 on Sunday for his first NASCAR Busch Series victory. Montoya, the Colombian star who jumped from Formula One to NASCAR late last season, recovered from a bad pit stop to aggressively move from 19th to first, taking the lead when he sent Pruett's car spinning on the 72nd lap. "I'm very sorry about what happened with Scott,'' Montoya said. "I thought he saw me and when he came across I had no room to go.'' Pruett was clearly upset. "Of all the people to take you out -- your teammate,'' Pruett said. "That was just lowdown, nasty, dirty driving.'' Hamlin, right behind the two Chip Ganassi Racing drivers at the time, said it was a tough call. "I wouldn't call it dirty driving, but it was a bit aggressive,'' Hamlin said. "Juan had the fastest car and he would have taken the lead sooner or later. He was overzealous.'' Hamlin, the winner last year, pressured Montoya in the closing laps, but couldn't pass on the 2.518-mile Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez road course's S-curves. Boris Said finished third in the race that ended with a green-white-checker finish after a late caution. Carl Edwards was fourth, and Pruett finished fifth. "I'm really glad we won, but really upset that we took out a teammate,'' said Brad Parrott, Montoya's crew chief. Montoya, who had the dominant car for the entire race, made a green-flag stop on the 45th lap, but a fuel malfunction forced him to return to the pits about 10 laps later. After a caution, he started 19th and quickly moved his way back to the front of the field.

VABuckSlayer
Re: Mexico Race I'm not a big road course fan. Montoya definately got too agressive with Pruitt. He was going to win anyway but didn't need to do that. At least Pruitt came back and got a top 5. Eric
Chrud
Re: Mexico Race [ QUOTE ] How do you figure? [/ QUOTE ] Exactly. Montoya is one of the best in the world. Coming from F1, all they do is road race. Pruett has reason to be upset. But, he wrecked someone earlier in the race, so he should be too fired up. He wouldn't have won anyway, maybe 3rd at best. He could have gave Montoya a little more room, he knew that move was coming.

Chrud
Re: Mexico Race [ QUOTE ] How do you build a fan base in mexico..??? .......Thats what I thought..LOL [/ QUOTE ] So was the Milwaukee Busch race fixed last year when Paul Menard (from Eau Claire, Wisconsin) won? Or did they plan the race in 2005 so it would get rained shortened and another Wisconsin guy, Johnny Sauter, would win? I'm sure that jumped up the Wisconsin fan base. snapper
Re: Mexico Race Teammates? Maybe for just this race...but I see Scott Pruett as a "road ringer"...maybe I'm wrong but I don't think he has a full ride...whereas Montoya does! If it were the other way around...Scott would have prob. done the same thing!

Montoya did that same move early in the race with no problem. I think a lot of people forgot that Pruett also spun someone earlier. I had a typo, so he should NOT have been too hot to trot. If NASCAR wanted a Mexican fan base for that race, Adrian Fernandez would have won. During the race they said he's one of the top 100 most influentional people in Mexico. I think he'd be the one in victory lane if racing was rigged, not a Cuban.
SuperMn106
Re: Mexico Race The way that i see it is... It was a racing deal. Montoya made a move to the inside and had the line. Pruett tried to block him and basically spun himself out because montoya already had the position.
Ravin R10 man
Re: Mexico Race dont matter.... cuban ..mexican..whats the diff..??...I think the races are scripted to a point..even the confrontations between drivers..who would watch or attend, if you dont think they play it up.... you must be naive

I can't think now, but there are plenty of other races that there was a particular driver whoit would have been a huge win for.

Chrud
Re: Mexico Race Oh...I get it. NASCAR wanted to have a race in Mexico. So, after 2 years they weren't happy with their fan base down there. So, they order Ganassi to spend millions upon millions of dollars on possibly the best road racer in the world and have him wreck his one time teammate for the win. Pretty good...almost as good as the WWF.
