Turkeygirl
to me I think I am being led to what God wants me to do. I've been in a dilemma trying to figure out what to do as a career. I love outdoor ed. but employment is so seasonal here and not alot of availability. I love athletic training, but basically I'd have to find a 4 year entry level Master's program to do that, and I don't think I can handle all the hard work of that, nor can I afford it. I'm paying off a loan currently. And I don't want to be working custodial the rest of my life, lol. Well I've been praying and it seems to me God is telling me to get into a RN program. I love medicine and I could afford a 2 year RN program and become a nurse. There's so many opporunities with nursing also. I could be a health director at a camp or work in a hospital or who knows where else. There's alot of jobs out there with a RN backround. It sems like I may have finally found something I can afford and would enjoy doing, and the pay is decent to - $30,000-$60,000 a year for new grads. and I believe $60,000 is what athletic trainers get with a Masters. So keep me in your thoughts and prayers and I hope things work out. I'm searching a couple local colleges I could commute to. We'll see what happens By the way isn't there a few on here who are nurses or have wives that or nurses?
Jeramie
Re: I think God is speaking... Listen to that soft still voice! RN is a great profession. A lot of people make good money and have a chance to reach a lot of people! Go for it if that is truly what you feel convicted to do! My brother is currently in nursing school and will graduate in May. There's a nursing shortage in our nation now and you won't regret it. ( Hopefully) He wants to work in the E.R. in south Florida where the pay rate is unbelievable. $$$$

too_pointer
Re: I think God is speaking... I agree with Steve, you seem the perfect person to be a nurse. From what I see, getting a job would not be hard. My broth-in-laws wife is a nurse in the baby ward, makes great money, plus she loves going to work. I wish you the very best Ruth Mike
Guest Finn
Re: I think God is speaking... Good luck.....I think it's a great career choice. Make sure you want to be a nurse and you're not going into it because it's a good job. I recruit nurses and find many get burned out because it's a tough job and too many go in for the money. Turkeygirl
Re: I think God is speaking... Oh, I'm not going in it because of the money. I'm glad there is decent pay and more so than custodial or a part time outdoor ed. job, but I love medicine and want to do something with it and it seems like nursing would be the thing to do. Medicine runs in the genes here, lol. ( my mom was an lpn, our uncle was a surgeon, and my sister is finishing up to be a vet. tech.)
Guest bruteshooter
Re: I think God is speaking... FYI, todays paper in my area has 22 RN, LPN and CN job postings. It also has ZERO Education posting. But do what you think He may be telling you and what your own heart wants.

dartonman
Re: I think God is speaking... If you need anything as far as how to go about it, or the rewards for doing it...talk to my wife...the best thing I ever did was be a stay at home dad for 3 1/2 years and help her complete her RN/Trauma nurse specialist.....our phone rings constantly....she is working two different hospitals part time, and they pay her a great deal of money to do it....and there is no shortage of openings..........she will always have a job in extremely high demand.......al

Guest realtrhunter
Re: I think God is speaking... Good luck... my girlfriend just decided tonight to go into the same field and is filling paper work out to get into a 12mo school that is at a hospital in the area. You should possibly think about wilderness medicine also. It is a growing field for rescue teams and wild fire crews. It would allow you to be outside and also do medical stuff. I am thinking ouf going into it if the whole forestry thing doesnt go to good.

popgun
Re: I think God is speaking... I think nursing would be a great profession, and nursing school should not be difficult for you. You already know all the bones, muscles, tendons and nerves. In the short time that I have known you on Realtree, you have either broken, sprained, scraped, pinched, squashed, bruised, cut, or been bitten in most of them. I don’t think there is a rash, allergy, virus, fungus, infection, or malady of any kind that you don’t have first hand experience in. Good luck, I think nursing could be your calling. ….popgun

horst
Re: I think God is speaking... My wife got her RN earlier this year. She loves it, the pays good and she only has to work 3 12 hour shifts a week so shes home with the kids more often then she was working a dead end 9 to 5 job anywhere else. Two year course, lots of clinical experience involved in it and theres a certain amount of extra education you gotta do after you graduate to keep your license valid I believe. Some hospitals will even help you pay off your student loans on top of your regular wages, I think they give her and 250$ a month or something to put towards her loans. [/ QUOTE ] Yes the wife is an RN Ruth, and sure she would be happy to help you out with any questions you might have. There are a ton of opportunities out there for RN's, and a lot of avenues for different types of work. Actually to be honest you might be able to get into a program like the excelsior program if you meet the criteria and not have to sit in a classroom and get done much quicker than 2 years. Bet you have taken a lot of the courses with your athletic training that you should not have to take over.
