Re: between a rock and a hard spot

That is too bad. Would think that all 3 in the truck would be involved if they were in the truck whether they shot or not. "guilt by association" type of thing. They were there and did not try to stop the shooter from engaging in illegal activity, they did not report it either. Seems if there was some evidence the dnr could do something about it. You never did find the deer though did you?

Re: between a rock and a hard spot

Karen-

This kind of stuff happens all the time....hopefully you scared your neighbors enough that they will think twice about poaching on your land. I know how it goes in rural areas and the DNR doesnt' seem to have the resources to deal with it, however you did what you could do.

I would go to the guys house and simply tell him (he already knows or assumes) that you saw him shoot at a deer on your land and you NEVER want to see him do it again or you will turn him in.

I understand guys taking a deer for true "need".....however this sounds like a ritual for these guys, they'll continue to poach, however I GUARANTEE you if you simply talk to him, he will NEVER poach on your land again......once he isnt' on your land it makes it that much easier to turn him in.

As far as your husband goes....I understand in a sense the mentality of not wanting to get involved, however.....poachers travel in packs....if it was a true destitute person, they would have known better and they would have come back for the deer...just something to think about. Good for you!

Merry Christmas! And sleep well because you did the right thing!

Re: between a rock and a hard spot

From another female hunter, you go girl! I feel bad for your situation, that sucks alot. We have neighbors who have done something at least every year that somehow either breaks a law or is just plain unethical and dangerous. It ish ard because Andy(dad, kind of) is like your husband and we also figure God will deal with the neighbors. If we reported the neighbors or even went to their door, we are afraid of the repercussions as the neighbors are not very nice people to begin with. Anyway I admire your persistance and good luck to you! Women are allowed to make their own decisions:o)

Traveling the right path is not often an easy trek much like hunting itself, The one thing I do know... You have done the right thing, had you not contacted the dnr you would have placed your integrity as a hunter and sportsman/woman on the line. As a soldier and sportsman I am proud of your choice. I only hope there are more people with your courage working for our causes.

Re: between a rock and a hard spot

Hope they catch them. Would suggest in the future should this go on taking some pics of the evidence when you find it to present to the DNR when you go in. Never know if those who are responsible might catch on and try to hide the evidence.

Too bad this has gone so long as it has, but if it is anything like here the wildlife officers are really stretched to thin and covering a lot more ground than one man or woman should have to.

I am going crazy here, I keep waiting to find out if these SOB'S get caught or not, I don't know if I can help or not, but I do have some pretty close friends in various states that work for the DNR and GF&P, Wild life MNGT is a Fed ORG. I would be more than happy to make some calls.

Yeah, even alerting a DNR officer to his thread, might get some attention.
