WooooHoooo! She's Caving!

Ive been after my wife about buying a boat. Honestly I want to save the money up and pay cash for one but putting back $6k-$7k isn't so easy.

Our bank will hand me cash in a heartbeat. Ive been working on the wife a little at a time. I know she wants one and would enjoy a pontoon too. Setting limb lines and trolling for Sandbass (white bass) would be much easier too. Anyway for about the past week ive been throwing that on her every chance I get.

Last night she caved! Sort of.....

I have about 3-weeks to prove we can afford it (which we can, easily). She does the bills so I know she knows it too. It just gives her the chance to soak it in first!

Also I will have about $1400 cash by then to pay too! Man Im stoked....

Everyone keep your fingers crossed. tongue.gif

Re: WooooHoooo! She\'s Caving!

good plan...plant the seed early.

Here's my deal....."I really could use a new bow or golf club" about 3 months before I'm going to buy it. Casually mentioning it from time to time until she feels like I really need to get it and gives the green light. wink.gif

Re: WooooHoooo! She\'s Caving!

I'd save up the money and pay cash for it myself.....

Not trying to rain on your parade but if finding the cash to pay for it is going to be tough, how much harder is it going to be to find the payment plus interest plus insurance plus gas plus.....

If it were me, I would figure up what the payment would be and save it up and buy a boat in a year or two for cash. It will steer and catch fish better if you paid cash for it.

My Dad always taught me that if a payment plan makes something you can't afford affordable, you can't afford it. I wish I had listened more.

I'm with the wife on this one.

But having said that, I hope she catches a lot of fish if you decide to get her.

Youre 100% on the mark, however I cant abide by that. I dont splurge often. I could save up the money in a couple of years but in reality that DOESNT happen. We have to many projects around the house and if I bank on that money being there it simply wont.

My every intent is to buy the boat and pay it off early. I will do just that..... wink.gif

I didn't mean to rain on your parade....I have just figured out that being in debt is dumb. The borrower is a slave to the lender and that is oh so true.

How about this, send the payment you would pay (the amount you would need to save to afford the boat in a year or two years) to your mom/dad each month like you were paying for it. Then they can deposit the money and earn interest on it (payment for raising you) and then when there is enough money, they give it back and you get your boat.

These projects are coming along and if you have the boat payment and insurance on top of them, it makes things much more stressful.

Anway, I am off my soap box but I do it because I want the best for you but I am jealous. Have fun with that boat and be safe no matter when or how you buy it.

What kind are you looking at?

Cheap...... tongue.gif

Seriously, im looking at a $6k pontoon. I found an early 90's in great condition (older couple) with a 200 horse OB. I cant remember if it was 22' or 24'. Either way its clean and in mint condition. They are asking $6500 but I know they will come down.

Im not going to just jump out there and buy the first boat to come along. Im going to be picky, even if it takes time.
