Guest OKbassin Posted March 6, 2007 Report Share Posted March 6, 2007 ok so ive been fishin a lot this winter and have caught lots of bass but the only place i cant get em to bite is my favorite fishin hole. ive been catchin em good everywhere else but in my favorite fishin hole where i catch em good all other times of the year, i cant get em to bite anything. ive tried everything and ive tried the same lures and paterns i was usin to catch em good in other ponds. i need help. anyone got any good tips on this subject? DU_man_84 Posted March 7, 2007 Report Share Posted March 7, 2007 Re: Winter weary bass well a smaller pond is gonna warm up faster than anything specially only beeing 10 ft deep, i would wait or if it has already for a good week of solid warm weather, hopefully sunny and after that i would head out and concentrate on your north shores first cause they warm the fastest cause the south winds blow the warm water to the northern banks, your still gonna be fishing slow, try slow rolling some spinnerbaits, also you can fan cast spinnerbaits and cover alot of water searching for bass, fishing some jigs (black and blue my favorite color) or texas rigged worms or tubes, preferaby smaller ones tight against structure if ya got it, if you know the bottom structure and if you have ledges or drop off points fish rattle traps on the the downside of the ledges, cause bigger females will be staging there waiting to move up when the warmer weather hits to drop eggs, smaller males are gonna start working up to the shallows first then larger males will come up into the shallows for the pre spawn stage and start feeding heavily to fill up for the spawn and start searching for areas where they are gonna make there beds, when the weather starts warming up like this good pair of polarized sunglasses help alot cause you gonna be looking for alot of cruising bass in the shallows, also a good bait for cruising bass would be a super fluke on a 2/0 or 3/0 hook free swimmed, that is bout pretty much what i do for the early season bass, you got anymore questions, keep asking be glad to give suggestions Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Guest OKbassin Posted March 7, 2007 Report Share Posted March 7, 2007 Re: Winter weary bass the water is about 45 degrees and the pond has a cedar tree, and laydown tree, and a couple stumps. it doesnt have many weeds at all. the water is pretty clear right now but it is a tad murky. the bottom is a sandy clay mix. oh yeah and there is one small channel running through the pond. DU_man_84 Posted March 7, 2007 Report Share Posted March 7, 2007 Re: Winter weary bass 45 degrees is still pretty cold, but you can catch fish just have to be more patient, definatley try dragging some jig and pig setups along the bottom, or the slow rolled spinnerbait like i mentioned before or try vertical jigging a jig and pig or texas rigged worm in deeper structure if ya got it , bass are still gonna be in deeper water with temps like that, you waters in those temps bass metablolism is still down so they arent gonna be moving very far or very fast, just remember fish sloooowww and downsize your baits Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Gator Posted March 8, 2007 Report Share Posted March 8, 2007 Re: Winter weary bass Hit a pond last night, and was using a 1/16th oz Gamaklatsu lead head jig witha white trailer, and caught two bass on it. Nothing big, but they were bass, and they were SHALLOW!!!!! This time last year I caught one out there that was almost 5lbs on the same colored jig.
