The_Kat
Ok, so I'm starting to feel the costs of college and I'm considering college loans. I'm all tapped out on my scholarships, and other government aid so I'm being forced to take out a loan. I'm wondering who is the best people to take a loan with.....have any of you used student loans. I'm only needing about 5000-6000$. Any suggestions and help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance~! archerjg
Re: Student Loans *HELP ME* Try the local federal credit union they are usually the cheapest on rates, at least here they are. Archerjg
RangerClay
Re: Student Loans *HELP ME* Don't be afraid to Google "student loans" You may get the best rate once you shop around. I also had Sallie May but that was a LOOOOONG time ago.
Chrud
Re: Student Loans *HELP ME* Mine were Stafford Unsubsidized I believe. They do collect interest, but you don't have to pay until six months after you graduate.
LETMGROW
Re: Student Loans *HELP ME* # 1 You might think about getting a job. # 2 Check with your college. They should be able to steer you in the right direction.
Newarcher
Re: Student Loans *HELP ME* Be careful with those loans.....many kids consider it found money and go hog wild with it. I can't tell you how hard it can be to make a life with that payment once you get out of school. I used Stafford and I wish I hadn't ever done that....i could have gotten through working another job or not splurging on a new computer and printer. As for who, try a credit union. Best of luck, New
Tominator
Re: Student Loans *HELP ME* I, like you, ran out of money in my last year of college so I had to get one loan. I got a loan from a local bank. They're like any other loan, shop around for the best rate. More than likely they will sell the loan to Sallie Mae, that's who I ended up paying back. One thing to remember, and I don't know if it's the case anymore, but student loans used to be a discounted loan. In other words, they took the interest on the front end of the loan. I ended up a bit short because I did not know that at the time. Thank goodness for the fiance savings and trust.
johnf
Re: Student Loans *HELP ME* Another couple things you may want to think about is other scholorship options. There's a lot of money out there that no one ever claims. Another thing is that it depending on your major there are some loans out there that can be forgiven in certain circumstances. I had well over $10K in student loans in 92' and did not have to pay back a single dime because of where I took a job.
Exturkinator
Re: Student Loans *HELP ME* Based on my personal experioence, I can only advise you to avoid Sallie Mae like the devil... horrid customer service...
The_Kat
Re: Student Loans *HELP ME* I would get another job, but I'm working 40 hours a week with the police department, and I'm taking 24 credit hours as well. No time for another job unfortunately. The bad thing about my police job is I only get paid 60 hours a month while I work 240. But I'm guaranteed a full time job with a years experience pay once I graduate. I'm in no hurry to get a loan, but it seems this is the only option. Thanks for the input so far! Jeramie
Re: Student Loans *HELP ME* [ QUOTE ] Sallie Mae was who I used. [/ QUOTE ] Thats who my wife used too. Their rates were pretty reasonable. They are a huge lender too... By the way Kyle, take out only what you need! I cant stress that enough. As tempting as it is DO NOT BORROW MORE THEN YOU NEED AT ANY GIVEN TIME. Trust me, about 2-years after college youll be so happy you took that advice. My wife's brother graduated with an IT degree. He has been working full time for about a year to year and a half... He now owes nothing. Mid 20's and not a debt in the world. I couldnt imagine. My youngest sister had a loan with them, they are not a good lender in my opinion. I remember she had all kinds of trouble with them with paying off her loans even though she was making her payments and they screwed up her credit. unioncountyslayer
Re: Student Loans *HELP ME* I used NCCF a state operated college loan company. I'm sure there is something similar in OK
