oldksnarc
Been thinking about buying one of these. But, what I have read on it you have to pay close attention to twist rate/bullet weight or it seems like there are problems with consistent groups. What's the best weight to twist ratio for the different loads, i.e. 55 grain and 65 grain? Any one have the WSSM and what are your thoughts? AJ
Re: .223 WSSM Twist is a little over rated by many shooters. The only time it is really an issue is when its not fast enough. If the twist is not fast enough, the bullet will not stabilize and will keyhole. Too fast is not that big of a deal. The 55 gr bullet will need about 1:14" twist to stabilize as does a 50 gr bullet. My 1:9" twist AR will shoot 50 gr bullets into tiny bughole groups. Yes the 1:9" twist is also good for 70 gr bullets also. The 65 gr bullets need at least 1:12" twist. The barrel's quality and the quality of the chambering is more important than the twist. I would go with at least a 1:12" and that will allow you to shoot pretty much anything from factory ammo. I have not heard a lot of good things about the WSSMs. They did get a lot of bad press about factory ammo. Basically the cases are so big and so short that they are too hard to get a good grip on the chamber wall upon firing and that creates a lot of bolt thrust which is not good for the action. snapper
Re: .223 WSSM I have a .25 WSSM and like it....only complaint I have is the limited factory ammo choices. I personally didn't like the performance of some of the factory ammo I've used.
