JimT
Re: Huntin in rain I am not sure either. Maybe wrap a plastic bag over it, then unwrap it when it is time to shoot?

too_pointer
Re: Huntin in rain Sidelocks are prone to rain. I used one for years, (TC White Mountain Carbine). I tucked it under my arm when the weather stunk !! This is one of the reasons I went to an inline. You certainly can use a cover to keep the moisture out, leather was a good idea. too_pointer
magnatecsteve
Re: Huntin in rain I am a flintlock shooter, so I have to shield my lock from the weather even more. I've mentioned before the use of a "cows knee". It was originally the actual knee section of a cow or any other large animal{moose, elk}. The natural bend fit the lock perfectly. What you can do is get a good piece of leather, thicker the better, mine is elk hide. With the hammer at half-****, drape the leather over the lock. Where there is a crease or fold, make a wedge shaped cut there and re-stitch it back together. That will help contour it to fit. Attatch some straps for securing it to the gun if you like. Then, give it a good coat of waterproofing. I used lard and beeswax, but Sno-Seal works well too.I always use my armpit to shield it even more. I took my second best deer ever this year with my flintlock in a dreary rain. My primer got wet a few times, but I kept it fresh and cleared the vent, and it went off when I needed it to.
