Races being fixed?

Re: Races being fixed?

There is no way you can fix auto racing. Sure there are some ironic wins, but a far cry from fixing.

Well, if you look at Daytona, 6 years since Dale Sr's death....I'm sure Junior winning was NASCAR's "Plan A". As soon as he wrecked, I'm sure they got on the radios and said "Plan B"...you know so Harvick wins. smirk.gifgrin.gif

Re: Races being fixed?

There are so many ways the races could be fixed (maybe not fixed, but definately influenced) by NASCAR, those that say there isn't need to wake up. I do not know if it is actually done or not, but it sure has that appearence.

Just a couple of the ways that they can be influenced, tech inspection help, pit road speeds, and timely cautions. Heck they could do those without the teams even being involved. I think we all know that the teams try to push the envelope (read cheat) as much as they can, how hard would it be for the tech inspectors to miss something that will give that team a little edge?

Does that happen? Who knows? But to say it is not possible, is being unrealistic.

Decided I wasn't through yet!!!

Assuming that the above is true, it still would not mean that the team in question was actually going to win the race, because we all know that stuff happens (wrecks, mechanical failures, flats, etc.) but it would give an advantage to the team that they wanted to win.

Re: Races being fixed?

Thanks Tex...to be closed minded on this issue, is to say WWF is real too!!...LOL I know die-hard fans will not even think its is possible to influence a race..I strongly dissagree..these guys are professionals..they can make racing look like anything they want it too, and you would not even know it. Ever hear of any sports ..(basketball comes to mind), that have done this...even the race teams get caught with illigal parts in inspection, why would you not then think it could be possible?? I guess some here dont want to face up to the possibility.

Maybe you guys gotta take a couple rounds of wedge out of your shorts..LOL smirk.gif

Dale Earnhardt Jr. winning the first race at Daytona after his father's death.

Jimmie Johnson dominating the Charlotte speedway sponsored by the same company that backs his racecar.

those two always got under my skin crazy.gif

some of those dumb moves and wrecks at the end of some races that gives a win to someone who shoudn't have won always make me wonder confused.gif

Re: Races being fixed?

Influence? Perhaps. But to "fix" a race would require the cooperation of all 43 drivers! Hardly a likely scenario. I would like to watch someone try to talk Tony Stewart into rolling over and let someone else win! Or any number of other drivers! Please!! crazy.gif

Re: Races being fixed?

No they don't. Not unless its been changed since 2006. My uncle was an engineer with one of the big teams. He retired last year. He used to laugh about how NASCAR took care of certain people at the plate races, and his driver was one of the "cared for" ones. Also my cousin is a shock guy for one of the smaller teams. They both told me that NASCAR gives out the plate and it isnt random. They come to you with your plate.

Not going to say their names because they are both still being paid, so take it for what it is worth, but I KNOW that it isnt random.

Re: Races being fixed?

I don't think the races are "fixed" either but NASCAR can do things to help out who they may want to see win the race. Like others said... you can over look an illegal part on a car. I work the races at Richmond and I know in the Indy race they throw bogus caution flags for "debre". I've heard them on the radio talk about it before it happened. It's obvious they do it in NASCAR. As soon as someone starts stinking up the race the ol "debre caution" comes out to make the race a little more exciting at the end. Made for tv racing if you ask me. It's all about the ratings and the money. As long as they can keep the most popular names winning and have close exciting races... they will make a pile of $$$$$. That's what NASCAR has become in my opinion!

Re: Races being fixed?

I doubt NASCAR would have a race 'fixed' from the start but I do believe they can have an influence on the outcome. I have seen several races where the leader was blowing the rest of the field away and had a sure ticket to victory lane when NASCAR threw a debris caution (when the so called debris was well out of the racing groove) just to bunch the cars back up and make the race more exciting. Exciting it was but, in my opinion, unfair to the drivers. I used to be a big NASCAR fan but every year NASCAR stoops to a new low and I loose more and more interest. Last year it was the Busch race in Mexico (lets keep this an American sport like it was intended to be) and this year the unveiling of the 'car of tommorow' have you all seen this ugly thing?! It's ridiculous! NASCAR should be ashamed of themselves for screwing up, what used to be, an exciting, enjoyfull American sport!!!!!! mad.gif Sorry folks; had to vent a little. frown.gif
