Squirrelhunter91
Where do you folks buy your seeds? I am interested in planting a spring plot this year, then in september making it a fall/winter plot.. see this post: Spring Plantings We have a Tractor Supply Co around here but I'm not sure if they carry what I want. I want to plant alfalfa or some type of clover. Not sure what to pick though. But here's another question, how much do you guys pay for seed? Thanks.. AaronS
Re: Where? If I'm looking for a little clover or alfalfa, or a mix, I go with Whitetail Institute products from a local archery shop or from Cabela's. If I'm wanting wheat or rye, I'll go to the local feed mill. If I need RR beans or corn, I'll go to the local farm/fleet (like your TSC) or I'll see if I can buy a few pounds off of my wife's uncle. LETMGROW
Re: Where? There are several good companies making food plot seed. I personally prefer Whitetail Institute's seed over many others. Like I have said over and over on this and other forums, you get what you pay for. Deer are not cattle. They have systems and tastes which prefer softer clovers etc. The food plot seeds are engineered for deer. We know they work. Just because a plot looks good doesn't mean deer will be attracted to it. If you are going to go to all the work to prepare your plot I would highly recommend paying a little more for good seed. Gander Mountain, Dick's Sporting Goods, and Cabella's all carry plot seed. Or, you can order on line. Lynn
deerslayer79
Re: Where? try your local southern states,if you have one in your area, and also try some seed dealers like,doeblers,chemgro,ect.. they usually carry clovers and alfalfas. wtnhunt
Re: Where? Really depends on what I am planting Joe. I buy some seed from hamann farms and would highly suggest their clover/trefoil blends. For my annual peas and beans and other stuff like wheat or sorghum I go to a local feed and farm supply store or the local coop. Have bought pennington seed from there and from wal mart, of the seed I have used I would rank the pennington and hamann farms seeds at the very top.
