Re: How old were you when you killed your first turkey

I was 15 years old. . . and the first in the family to catch the turkey bug so i had to teach myself, but it was the most fun learning experience i've ever had.

Started hunting them when i was 13 but due to no license and not many turkey around the house i would only get to go a couple times a year when my dad would go with me just to pacify me, i'd imagine i was pretty obnoxious wanting to go all the time. I can thank my mother for my first bird b/c being the wonderful person she is. . . . she would get up 2 hours before daylight and drive me 20 minutes to a spot i had gained permission to hunt and drive back home and go back to bed. Tell me she isnt wonderful. . . .

Re: How old were you when you killed your first turkey

I was 8 when I finally stayed awake long enough to get one. My dad took several while I was asleep in his lap in the years prior. I can remember many a time when I was awakened by a big boom, most of the time I would wake up and not know where my dad was, but after I scanned the area I would see him smiling back at me while toting a bird saying “ I told ya, you should have stayed awake”. We would say our prayers thinking God for his creation and the opportunity to enjoy it, then we would go on our way. Some great memories. Funny thing is I still love to catch a nap leaning up against a tree with the morning sun hitting me in the face. Only thing different, my dad won’t try to wake me up any more.
