Stinger-Hunter
I was doing some photography at a forest preserve in Illinois just off of 394 near the Illinois and Indiana border. The inner roads of the forest preserve are a haven for deer. I saw this deer lying belly up about 20 yards off the road. I thought it was hit by a car and went to check it out. I was enraged when I saw the hole in the side and the antlers were cut off. Besides being a horrible thing to do, this is not a good thing to do in Illinois - toughest laws in the country regarding guns and there are cops all over that place. Here are the pics:

firefighter
Re: Poached buck (with pics) that ticks me off ,,, I've seen bucks with holes in em laying beside the road, long before gun season even started, I saw this one at a state forest, the body on this buck was huge, biggets bodied deer i've ever seen, rack and back straps we're cut out of it. Really ticked me off,,,,,,,,,,, the sad thing was that my daughter was with me, she got a first hand look at what poachers do........... WHISKEYSWAMP
Re: Poached buck (with pics) You sure it wasn't hit by a car and the police had to put it out of it's misery? I've seen this before.

Stinger-Hunter
Re: Poached buck (with pics) If the antlers were still attached, I'd say you were right, but they are cut off and the police would have had someone pick it up and dispose of it. [/ QUOTE ] I still say if it's that close to the road it's a roadkill. I've seen numerous bucks laying dead along the road with either their head or rack cut off. It's a shame, but it happens. If it were poachers, then hopefully they get busted.
billygoat
Re: Poached buck (with pics) Either way... what a waste, and indeed if it is a poacher, justice will catch up eventually.

HuntingInMaine
Re: Poached buck (with pics) It's bad enough when someone poaches a deer, but even worse when they don't even take the meat. I am not saying poaching and taking the meat is a good thing, but at least the deer doesn't go to waste!
