Hey guys, I am planning on going coyote hunting tommorow and have a few places to hunt...

Here they are, please tell me which you think would be best (I dont really hunt coyotes so I dont know which to choose).

- In my tree stand which is 3 fourths covered by field and 1 4th covered by woods.

-my treeline in the corner of the 40 acre field

- on the top of my .5 acre valley

Thats my choices, Does anyone know which I should Pick?

Or if anyone has suggestions as to other locations I should chose?

Thanks alot!

Cheers,

Joe

Re: A quick Coyote hunting question

I'd pick an area that had the most open view, like that 40 acres field. I'd then put a e-caller about 30 yards into the open field on the downwind side of me and let er go. I personally wouldn't wast my time getting in a tree. There has to be some kind of cover next to the open field, If not I'd find one that did. The more open the area you are hunting, the better the chances of you seeing the animal as it responds.

Re: A quick Coyote hunting question

I went coyote hunting yesterday with my nine year old. I had a rifle and he had a shotgun so he could be my clean up man if they came in so close I didn't think I could get a good shot with the rifle. We called and sat for about 30 minutes. The ground was covered in snow. After we got up we walked about ten yards behind us on the way back to the truck and of course you know what we found in the snow. Coyote tracks!!!! tongue.gif It must have been on top of us when I let out another set of calls and got scared. It was straight down wind and we were completely covered by a blow down so it couldn't have seen us. I guess I'll wait a little longer in between my calls next time. grin.gifwink.gif

ThethirdI, you were probably watching the wrong way. Anytime you make a stand in coyote country be watching most to your downwind side, that's usually the way they head.

Re: A quick Coyote hunting question

You already got the best advice...all of em.

Coyotes have to eat to survive and because of their metabolism, they burn up a ton of energy making them always hungry.

Coyotes eat, sleep, and mate this time of year. Dust off your howler and go for it!

I went tonite and had a pot-shot on a small female and passed.

Good luck!
