dogdoc
You are on a snow goose hunt and have a nice group of 30+ birds coming into the decoys. You pick out a bird and drop it. You swing for another shot and two white geese are together--you take aim and the closest (snow) shoot and drop it and the bird behind it. Dog picks up the 3rd birds and brings back a speckle belly--oops. Question: Do you leave the bird in the field as specks are out of season and you don't want to get caught with it? So now are you guilty of wanton and waste? So you take the bird as to not waste it and take the chance of getting caught shooting a bird out of season? todd
Guest QuackHead
Re: What would you do??? If I were in that situation I would probably breast it out on the spot. So you were not wasting. But if you got caught you might not get in to much trouble depending on how nice the warden is.
longhorn57
Re: What would you do??? Oklahoma game laws prohibit fully dressing any bird except for dove and 1 other bird I belive. I had a friend back in high school the had already baged 2 can and the next group to come in he droped 2 in 1 shot, he called the GW for that county and told him what happened and the GW told him to take the goose home and clean it because it was an honest mistake and told him not to worry about it. If I were to leave it on the land I would ask the owners premission to do so.
Guest QuackHead
Sounds Legal In Indiana I don't think there are any laws prohibiting the dressing of game in the field but that's Indiana.

Randy
Re: Sounds Legal I'd take it home and clean it, It was a honest mistake and If I get caught with it I guess I'll pay the fine. Do not take it to a taxidermist Someone I know did the same thing, thought he could take it in that fall and mount it!! Big Mistake!!! We'll save that story for a different day!! Technically you have to know what you are shooting at. Some are good and some are nothing but two faced people.

Exturkinator
Re: Sounds Legal I would take the bird and simply be prepared to tell the truth (I accidentally shot the speck out of a flock of snows, and I didn't feel right about wasting it and leaving in the field). If a warden chooses to fine me so be it - but I was honest about it and didn't try to hide it...

If that would've happened to me, I'd either go to the game warden or call GF&P and let them know of my error. Sure I may get fined, but at least I'd have a clear consciounce (however that's spelled).
