I am pretty sure that I saw this on here before.

I am looking for a thumb release to use for hunting and 3D/target shooting. Can anyone reccomend any?

Also, does a thumb release improve your accurace over a trigger release? If so what is the theory behind it?

Re: Thumb release

You can use any thumb trigger release for hunting. There are some that you can actually clip right on to the d-loop and leave them hanging until you are ready to shoot.

Now as far as if they are more accurate then a index release..........no the release themselves are no diffrent, it is the way that you use the release that makes it accurate.

The reason that so many shooters use the thumb trigger release is because a majority of them use backtension when using them. Now we have started a completely diffrent subject wink.gif As far as your question

yes- you can hunt with them

No- in my opinion they are no more accurate then a index release.

Re: Thumb release

If you are going to use back tension to trigger a thumb release then why not just use a back tension release? I thought the point of having a release that you have to touch off a trigger on was to be able to fire when you wanted to and not have the shot be a suprise while you are focusing on the target.

Re: Thumb release

Because most backtensions have no trigger on them so you don't know when they are going off. With a thumb release you can always punch it if need be.

Personally I use a Truball Pro Diamond and love it. I honestly shoot tighter groups with it. Like Ultratec said though the trigger mechanism is not any better than the same trigger mechanism on a wrist type. Here is the one I use and it is about $100.
