Guest QuackHead
I have a Norinco SKS 7.62x39 rifle open sights only. I was just wondering if it is accurate enough to kill a coy from 75-100 yds. If this is pushin it how far can it shoot?
hoytbowhunter
Re: SKS Question I can hit a 3" clay target at 100 yards with my open sighted Norinco but considering we cant hunt with auto loaders in PA I don't now what it does to a dog at that distance i would imagine it would work good well beyond that range considering its equivalent to a .308 win depends on how conformable you are with it I hope i helped at least a little bit if you have any other questions i would e glad to help
AJ
Re: SKS Question All depends on the shooter. The cartridge is up to it. If the gun can shoot a 4" group at whatever distance, it is accuate enough to take a yodel dog. Be sure to get some good hunting ammo, not the FMJ surplus stuff. wtnhunt
Re: SKS Question Yep, the norinco sks is a decent gun. Killed my first deer with one at 45 yards or so with open sights, was the shortest tracking job of any deer I have ever killed. He fell after taking just 3 short steps. Think remington might have ballistic tables on the 7.62 on their site. Definitely want to use some good quality ammo, remington has corelokts for the 7.62. The sks is a fun gun, really need to put a scope on mine.

LETMGROW
Re: SKS Question Shoot the darn thing and then you tell us. If you can't hit a billboard at 50 yards i'd leave it in the cabinet. If your SKS shoots as well as my Chinese version by all means use it! Only sighting it in and shooting it will you know how any rifle, shotgun, muzzleloader or bow shoots. robk
Re: SKS Question a good sks is accurate out to 300 yards but beyond that i would worry. i had a chec sks and it was a nice shooting weapon and i was able to shoot open sights to 300 yards and hit a sillohette type target just like i could with a m16. i also had a chinese at one time that was actually nicer but got rid of them both and wish i had kept them. great little weapons and you can add a norinco scope with just a change in the rear upper of the action rob k
David_218
Re: SKS Question My "Sporterized" SKS. I replaced the rear sight with a Williams Peep Sight. Also removed the Bayonet, Cleaning Rod, and Lugs. Replaced the 10 shot Magazine with a five shot one. The stock is made by Fajen. I can get 1.5" groups @ 100 yards on average. Shoots better with US made ammo. I avoid using "dirty" Russian or Chinese manufactured ammo. [image][/image]
wtnhunt
Re: SKS Question Have considered changing the stock on my sks, but it goes on the tractor with me from time to time and gets a bit beat up. No doubt for one you plan using to hunt with removing the bayonet and cleaning rod is a good idea.

The wood stock brought the length-of-pull up to my fitting, making it easier to shoot accurately.
