Re: Turkey Guns

Better check your state regulations first. Here in Colorado only shotguns are legal for spring gobbler season. For fall---17 HMR & .22LR are illegal but a 22 MAG is legal. My fall gun is a Savage 222/20 guage. CB

Re: Turkey Guns

I think if a person is using a rifle for turkey hunting, you had better aim for the lower neck where it meets the body. Have heard of several body shot with a rifle and never found. One was chest shot, head on, with a .243 and not found, another was body shot with a .44 magnum rifle, 3 TIMES, and not found. I personally shot a grouse 3 times sitting when I was a teen head on thru the chest at about 10 yds., it finally got tired of that and just flew away, a long way.

I went to where I thought it landed but never did find it, after a long long search. I think a shotgun is the way to go, IMO

Re: Turkey Guns

I can't say I've ever really had a passion for rifle hunting turkeys. It's legal in the fall season here to do so, but I just always continued to use my shotgun instead. If was going to use a rifle though I'd be going with one of the .22's we have. I'd say stick to the .22, .222, or .223 calibers for turkeys.

if your going to hunt turkeys with a rifle first shoot only hollow points next the best places to shoot them is follow the leg up to the drum stick shoot a little low and back to hit vitals a breast shot will doo nothing my favorite spot is shot right up the but hole gets them every time

Re: Turkey Guns

LOL. Hey guys, I didn't say the turkeys "flew away". But the grouse did, and these stories are true. Also, the turkey shot with the .44 mag. (3 times) was shot with 240 gr. "Hollow Points". Enough feathers to stuff a pillow with. Guess these Preston County turkeys are just TOUGH. May have to borrow my cousins .50 Barrett to rifle hunt them up here, LOL.
