Guest Finn
Are those TV announcers from Ohio State or what? If they brag about how great Oden and Conley are any more, I'm going to PUKE!
unioncountyslayer
Re: hey Ohio State fans Tell me about it Craig! Anyone else besides the Bucks, and I'd be right there with you. Hey, on a side note, how about that Oden kid eh? Heck he's only playing with one hand! Don't worry, the Bucks might gag in the big dance, and I'm sure muggsy will soothe your feelings a bit. Maybe he'll even light a candle in honor of your Badgers. colts1888
Re: hey Ohio State fans I have had to listen to the stuff about Oden for years now since i live in the state of Indiana. Him and Conley were high school teammates as well. Just my personal opinion, but i dont think Oden is all that great. Solid player he is, but not as great as people make him out to be. He just appears to lack some athleticism to me. He is able to feast around the bucket simply becuase he is taller then everyone else on the court. Thats why he gets so many blocks to. In the NBA against men his size, i think he will struggle until he can round his game a little. I have always felt that his teammate Conley was a better overall basketball talent. Theres another kid in this state going to IU next year who may be better then both of them, his name is Eric Gordon. He originally signed with Illinois, then backed out and went with IU, caused quite a stir. He's had several 40 point games and is the number 1 ranked shooting guard in the country. [/ QUOTE ] ding, ding, ding...we got a winner boys. I have to agree, if Oden was 5'6"...the NBA scouts probably wouldn't be drooling. He's definitely not a polished player, but he's plenty athletic. How many other players could play with one hand (not his dominant hand either) for an entire season? Before anyone tries to answer I'll save you the trouble....not many is the correct answer. One big thing Oden needs to work on is his footwork. But he's only a freshman...he's a project, but his upside is huge.

muggs
Re: hey Ohio State fans [ QUOTE ] So what's wrong with this dude's hand? [/ QUOTE ] Not really sure, I think it's a wrist thing. He really needs season ending surgery it, but instead, he taught himself how to shoot free throws with his non-dominant left hand (at a 60% clip no less...so now what's Shaq's excuse?). Never heard one peep about it from Oden either.

[/ QUOTE ] No, but foul trouble sure would. Anyway, how many points did his team win by? Let me explain something to you John. There are several types of players in all sports, as there are several ways in which a each player can impact a game. Unfortunately, on Monday morning, Mr. John Superstatscruncher can't read all of those variables in the box score as he sips his coffee. Once again, it comes down to not only watching the games, but knowing what you're looking at when you watch 'em. I'll be hear if you need me. Take asprin for any pain, Tylencol for any swelling. muggs
Re: hey Ohio State fans [ QUOTE ] You were comparing him to the likes of Shaq last week correct? I clarified that for you about 3 times last week too. : smirk: [ QUOTE ] I don't hear anything? And whats tylencol? [ QUOTE ] Grammar smack? Weak... Speaking of weak, is Ohio States athletic department in charge of arranging the brackets or what? I've never seen an easier bracket then the one Ohio State is playing in. muggs
Re: hey Ohio State fans [ QUOTE ] weak oppenents [/ QUOTE ] Weak opponents?? Wisconsin is #3 in the nation. They also have Alando Tucker, Big Ten player of the year and I think he might have won NCAA Player of the year. Weak opponents?? The Buckeyes have 3, count them 3 losses on the year. They lost to Wisconsin, N.C., and Florida...all on their opponents home floors and the N.C. game was without Oden. Come on man, they're the deepest team in the country and their three best players are freshman. If them the credit they deserve.

Ohio State is one of the best teams in the country, blah blah blah...I know all of that. [/ QUOTE ] I don't think anyone is saying that. But he is the best 7-foot prospect since Shaq. Before you start, that's not a comparison to Shaq, I'm just saying that Shaq was the most recent 7 foot propect with this sort of potential. Will Oden ever be as physically dominant as Shaq...no. Will Oden win as many NBA titles...probably not. Is Oden better than Shaq was as a true freshman...that's up for debate. Oden's game has a lot of holes. Mainly his footwork (on offense...his defensive mobilty and footwork are ureal...if you can't agree with that I'm ending this debate because you'll lose all cred with me.). Will Oden come in as a rookie and light up the NBA...no. Will he lead the NBA is scoring...no. He's not that type of player. What he is, is a potential centerpiece to build a Championship caliber team around. Add a slashing pure scorer like a Kevin Durant to that team and man...look out. You'll have an inside-outside game that will rival Shaq and Kobe in their prime.

If Durant didn't score those 30 or 40 points (whatever it was) and just stood in the paint and blocked 3 or 4 shots Texas probably would have won that game.
