huntinguide
What states out there have the hunter fill a doe tag before harvesting a buck? Is it working or is does it just make you mad when a trophy walks under and your doe tag is still in your pocket.
Guest PAdeerdreamer
Re: Doe before Buck I don't hunt there. But parts of New Jersey are like that.
Tominator
Re: Doe before Buck Not Ohio, although I know some guys who do that voluntarily.
wtnhunt
Re: Doe before Buck Not Tennessee either. Tennessee especially in some areas is pretty liberal with the numbers of does allowed though.

Rhino
Re: Doe before Buck Never heard of a state that required that. I know of one hunting club that used to do that. After a few years of complaints from members loosing opportunities, they changed that rule to require that 1st doe to be killed by a certain date. That at least gave them the opportunity to pick the time to kill that 1st doe rather than let a shooter buck walk. I know of several clubs that require their members to kill at least 1 doe for every buck they kill. They have the whole season to get it done though. Randy
Re: Doe before Buck Wisconsin has certain "deer management units" That have "earn a buck" rules. In EAB units you must shoot a antlerless deer before shooting a buck. It's not a bad deal because if you shoot a antlerless deer you receive a sticker which COULD be used for the following year. For instance, I shot 7 antlerless deer this last season so I received my two buck stickers for next season, one for gun, one for bow. Now come opening day of bow season I can shoot a bruiser right away!! If you did not shoot an antlerless deer last year you will have to pass on the bucks until you do. wtnhunt
Re: Doe before Buck [ QUOTE ] Never heard of a state that required that. [/ QUOTE ] Think some states like maybe Wisconsin have zones where you have to "earn a buck". But not sure I have heard of an entire state that mandates that statewide. I think this would be very hard for a state to monitor. A hunting club or certain zones i think it could be done. But an entire state NO WAY. QDMAworks4me
Re: Doe before Buck [ QUOTE ] Not in New York. But I wish they did. [/ QUOTE ] I do also wish NY had some sort of "earn a buck" program where you had to shoot a doe before shooting a buck

Hoyt03
Re: Doe before Buck I wish we had that rule here in PA, too many does running around. You should have to take a doe or two to earn a buck.
TexasDeerHunter
Re: Doe before Buck We don't have it here, and I don't like the idea. However, I do feel that we as hunters should do our part to harvest doe. We should'nt need regulations to force us to do something we already should be doing. Maryland_Bowhunter
Re: Doe before Buck I think every state should make you shoot a doe before you take your buck . It will help with the deer numbers .
hoytbowhunter
Re: Doe before Buck As hoyt03 said we dont have to shoot a doe first but alot of hunting clubs in the area that I hunt mandate that you do.

unioncountyslayer
Re: Doe before Buck Not in NC. I will take a doe early in the season if I get the opportunity just to get one "under my belt" so I can relax a bit more and be patient waiting on a buck. ky_deerhunter_77
Re: Doe before Buck Not here in KY. We can get our tag the night before opening day and shot the buck at daylight Our tags for 1 antler / 1 antlerless or 2 antlerless, we can go back and get a bonus tag for 2 more antlerless. Unlimted antlerless for Zone
