Randy
Re: Camcorder?? Good question. I was wondering the same thing. I heard something about a GL2? This will be an interesting thread.
wtnhunt
Re: Camcorder?? GL2's are a bit pricey Ken. Got a sony handycam mini dv here and am really happy with it. Model cam I have is a dcr hc96. It is at the upper end of that line, and ran me around $600 for the camera without the accesories I bought with it. It has all sorts of cool features. Shot my daughters youth hunts, and got some great footage. Even turned on the nightshot the as we were watching a 4 pointer make a scrape about 75 yards out in front of us right at dark, and it turned out pretty nice. Shot a few of my hunts as well and got some cool video of a bobcat and a yote. Had posted some stills from the video in here before. If whenever I get dsl, will have to upload some video. If you are not looking to spend a fortune, these little sony handycams are great.

smallmunster
Re: Camcorder?? I am not a big fan of the dvd camcorders and would suggest minidv. Minidv records in avi format which is good for editing on the PC. As far as I know the dvd cams record in mpeg2 which can be edited but it isn't as good as the avi for lots of editing. If you are not going to edit maybe the dvd cams would work. I'm not sure if the average guy could tell the difference between the avi and mpeg, but I usually want the best quality I can afford so I stay away from the cams that record in mpeg. I will say that it has been year or two since I last looked into it so maybe things have changed a bit since then.
danthehunter
Re: Camcorder?? we use a GL2 for movie making purposes and it is fantastic. if you go to cci cameracity's website they have great prices. Dont know how much you are willing to spend but these cameras are unbelievable. You cant touch the quality of these with a mini dvd camcorder. Good luck
mehunter
Re: Camcorder?? I have a Sony and it works great. It has the night shot plus which works great in low/no light conditions.

smallmunster
Re: Camcorder?? Danthehunter, I didn't mean to put you on the spot. I just looked into them after you mentioned them as I had not heard of them before. I didn't find any good reviews. It sounds like they are one of those Brooklyn electronics outfits that scams their customers. I just didn't want anyone to try and buy something from them without being very careful. wtnhunt
Re: Camcorder?? Ken, butterfly photo has some great deals on minidv cameras. Where I bought my sony from, they too have some questionable ratings though. I checked the ratings on the same sight that Chris posted up there AFTER my purchase. Had also bought a dslr from them and was pretty happy with that purchase. Only thing you have to really watch for with them is the upsells. They will try to sell you on worthless extended warranties, overnight shipping, and accessories like aftermarket batteries. Really better off buying that stuff elsewhere. Sony sells the warranties and other accessories on their site, and they are genuine adn would suggest going that route if you decide to get those. After a lot of haggling and getting a bit turned off to the rep I was talking to, I fell for the extended warranty and accessory kit with a battery and universal charger, but still got the camera and everything shipped under the price sony had listed on their site, so I feel like I still came out ok, but did not get as good a deal as I wanted or hoped to.
