Where or where was Michael Waltrip on Sunday?

Recommended Posts

another race missed, this time him and his 00 car. Sad deal for sure and you know Toyota is not happy with this. He blames teching and not enough track time but I have seen his shop. Its state of the art and has simulators for tracks, so when you go to a track you will be somewhat in the ball park on set-up.

Then he whined about the tire. Funny thing is everyone has the same tire and they adjust their car to it. We do it on a local level and we still make the show. We have no one to blame but ourselves if we don't. Gotta get the set-up right and at this level they have so many resources to help them.

Not sure how many more races he will miss but I know it will be more than just the 2 he has missed already.

Like I said in a past post, I don't see him ever winning another race in a Cup car. He bit off more than he can chew and if Toyota leaves might be the end of his ownership too!

Isn't there only 8 past champion provisionals? If so, DJ is already down 3. By seasons end I see all 3 missing several races.

[/ QUOTE ]

Nope, 6 for the entire year

I kinda feel sorry for DJ, makes me wonder what he was thinking joining MWR confused.gif

Really, only 6? I guess he'll be missing races sooner than I thought. I didn't even attempt to qualify at Fontana and was near last at Vegas.

Why did DJ go to MWR? Simple, two reasons. The first, $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

The second, MWR, as you can tell, needs the champion provisionals so they have at least one car make the show each week. I don't think they thought they'd be out after 2 months. smirk.gif

I can easily see Waltrip missing at least 10 races this year. Ruittiman (sp) will make a majority of his, but will still miss around 5. DJ will start missing a lot of races too. I see him missing around 6 to 8.

he should be used to that...he has 4 wins in how many years?? smirk.gif

The first 500 was all because of Dale Sr.

The second 500 was rain shortened. Also, Junior was a lap down and pushed Waltrip passed the 48 just before the rain.

The 400 at Daytona ended under caution. Thanks to Junior for blocking for him.

Talladega was the only lagitiment win. Thanks to the push from Junior. smirk.gif

Not only did he not qualify for the race, but he was the slowest car in qualifying! That really breaks my heart to see toyota struggling. grin.gif

[/ QUOTE ]

Not only that, but he wrecked in qualifying too! grin.gif

Anyone watch NASCAR Race Day on SPEED? One guy had a big circular sign with Toyota's logo and a big red "NO" (circle w/ line through it) over the top of it. cool.gifgrin.gif

DJ is already 32nd in owners Points,

if he can keep finishing above 35th he'll be in the show every week.

[/ QUOTE ]

yeah but there comes a sense of pride and wanting to be competitive in the field and contend for the win, all the Toyota teams have a lot of building to do.

I just think Toyota picked the wrong teams for their debut and to have Mikey as the flagship team, what were they thinking?????? grin.gif

Here\'s why Toyota signed who they did

Toyota knew that there would be alot of resistance to their entrance from alot of people and they knew that they would struggle out of the gate.

They hired Mikey cause he's a lovable goof and would negate alot of the hatred by some people.

They hired DJ to get the champion's provisionals to get one team into the top 35.

they hired Reutiman for... on second thought I dont know why they hired Reutiman

You are right about DJ. But Darrell was one of the first to have a Toyota truck team. It was obvious that Michael would be a "pioneer" of Toyota in the Cup series. And the only reason they signed Reuitmann is because he was DW's driver.

Had Toyota tried to lure current teams, they'd be much more competitive.

I totally agree,, and for you Toyota haters out there,,, I'd beware because this little streak of bad luck for Toyota won't last long...and they will be winning thier share of the races smirk.gifsmirk.gif

[/ QUOTE ]

No way, not this year. And not next year, unless they get Penske. That is really the only "competitive" team I see possibly going to Toyota. I say "competitive" sarcasticly because they pretty much stink.

There are over 50 teams now. Had Toyota just gotten current teams to switch, they'd be in more races.

Just out of curiosity Luke, who do you think (of the current drivers) would get a win for Toyota this year?

I truthfully couldn't answer that Matt.... wink.gif I can say this tho,, Toyota Racing has a knack for making teams come to the fore front,, the racing world is nothing new to Toyota, and I say with time they will be a dominate force in NASCAR as they already are in the truck series.

Will it happen this year or next,,, maybe not but you can be assured it will happen.... wink.gif

I really have to disagree with you there. The truck series is probably the best racing in NASCAR, but Toyota has kind of manipulated that series.

Its no secret that the truck series is very low on money. They even cancelled a race because of no sponsorship this year. You always see changing sponsors and no sponsors on the trucks. Toyota came right out and showed that they aren't scared to spend money. They are sticking a TON of money in the truck series. Now, in a series where money is really getting hard to come by, where would you go? To Toyota's money. Toyota is so good in the truck series because they own way more than half the teams out there and spend a lot of money.

With Chevy, Ford and Dodge's money backing all in the Cup series, I don't see Toyota being a contender.

Disagree if you wish Matt,, but don't forget Toyota isn't bashfull about spending the money , and they have plenty of it too... wink.gif

Watch and see,, they'll find the talent they need to be competative...in NASCAR,,, Just remember one thing.. Toyota isn't knew to this game of racing,, it's just a different series is all.... wink.gif

Re: Here\'s why Toyota signed who they did

[ QUOTE ]

I may only have a passing acquaintence with Nascar, but I know a business winner when I see one, and Toyota is definitely that. Racing today is more of a business than a sport and I expect to eventually see Toyota dominate that just like they dominate passenger car sales.

[/ QUOTE ]

I really don't think they will dominate as NASCAR will not allow for that in the NEXTEL series, they like the parody and to dominate, the other makes will cry till they get something their way. To say Toyota will dominate the sport I think that will drive people away from NASCAR because there are a ton of people that do not want to see them out there. If they dominate you may just see empty seats. NASCAR will keep them equal and if anything they need something now but I think the biggest downfall is they are not affiliated with the right talent right now and the right powerhouse of a team.

If you put Hendrick drivers in a Toyota they could probably win races, but don't see wins coming with what is out there now. When you see 4 Toyotas not making the show something is missing!
