Accurate gun?

Re: Accurate gun?

I will have to say Kimber or Cooper. Sure there are occasional Rem, Savage, Browning, Winchester, Woogah, Sako, Weatherby, or other company that makes a bughole shooting gun but not consistantly. They all have ok to good shooting guns with some occasional...well, lets call them guns build on January 1st when all the employees are hung over. To have consistant guns that shoot little groups would have to go to Kimber or Cooper. They are factory guns to boot, just not as mass produced as the others.

Re: Accurate gun?

Actually this is a hard one to say. If you get down to brass tax, you really would have to shoot factory ammo to get a good assumption.

I think most guns will far out shoot the average shooter (myself included). Consistency? From all ive shot I think the Tikka would have to be the most consistent. I have had a Rem700 that was an absolute tack driver, and Rem 742 that was actually dead on the money, a savage that would split hairs, and a ruger that could punch touching holes all day. All with factory ammo..... I wouldn't assume those guns are accurate due to brand name. I honestly believe it was just running across the right gun.

However, Ive never seen a Tikka that didn't hold a good pattern.

Re: Accurate gun?

The savage model 10 out of the box was pretty accurate rifle. After a little trigger job, it was even more accurate. Personally I think it really will depend on the shooter though. Sometimte you can take a remington model 700 that just feels right for you and feed it cheap core lokt ammo and have a pretty accurate rifle, if it feels right for that shooter. Take the same shooter with a gun that has equal ability, but now a gun that feels awkward or does not fit right and the shooter will likely not group as well.

Having a gun that shoots well for you is a pretty critical part of accuracy in my opinion. Like Jeramie says here most manufacturers put out guns of quality that will in many cases out perform the person who is using them.

And who makes the best truck?

This discussion could go on forever without being settled.

In my lowly opinion ,it isn't the brand as much as the fit and feel to the shooter as to which gun shoots best. I have handled some " high end " guns I really didn't feel comfortable with, while on the other hand some cheaper guns just seemed to fit me perfectly. Granted you can buy different stocks and forearms etc. or have a gun custom made for you. But why?

If you want to buy a gun, go to as many stores or shops and handle as many guns as you can until you find the one which feels like it is a part of you. Then you may have the perfect shooter. I hope!!!!

BTW, in AJ's defense, I haven't held a Kimber I haven't liked!

Im not wanting to debate or coming to a settled answer. Just curious as what each person has shot or been around that they thought/felt was accurate.

The bottom line most every gun can shoot better than the person handling it. smile.gif

Just curious that's all.

Re: Accurate gun?

The most accurate out-of-the-box gun I've ever owned (by a looong shot) is a Ruger. shocked.gif There's also a factory Weatherby Vanguard (Howa) in the safe that's a 1/2 MOA shooter. There's also been Brownings, Winchesters, Remingtons, etc. that have all shot quite well. But it's pretty hard to generalize an answer to this question.

The most accrate gun(s) is the Thompson center and Arms Encore. My brother used the .243 for groundhogs and never missed. I used the muzzloader and shot a nice doe with it. But the most accurate gun I've used so far is a 30-30 Merlin. Let me tell ya, it leaves a mark.

Now is this with a TC barrel, or with an aftermarket barrel ? I have a TC 25-06 barrel for my Encore, and it shoots good enough for hunting, but wouldn't bet money at the range with it crazy.gif

Re: Accurate gun?

The Weatherby Accumark or Fibermark series. They are actually component guns consisting of Creiterion or Kreiger barrels (same company-these barrels are cut rifled or button rifled, not hammer forged like Ruger or Remington) and Bell and Carlson or HS Precision aluminum bedding block stocks. the triggers are fully adjustable and are excellent. Any other gun that I have purchased, I have replaced the trigger with a timmney or rifle basix trigger. Not my Weatherby's. Yea, they cost 1600+ dollars BUT THEY ARE WORTH IT!
