Jeramie
There is a HUGE gun show at the end of this month in Tulsa. I think its the biggest in the state. Some great deals can be had there too. Im looking to pick up a new Rifle. Im going to switch my .243 to a varmint and paper shooter so Im looking for a deer rifle. All seem to be around the same price (within reason) but Im open to suggestions. Im going to pick up one of the following (depending on what deal I can find at the show) .25-06, .270, .280, .308, or .30-06. Now what Rifle? The Remington 700, Browning A-Bolt, Ruger, and Savage all seem to be about the same price Range. Ill top it with 6x18x50mm glass for my Speed Goat hunt in September. Anyone have any suggestions and a decent reason? Btw, Im open to suggestions on other rifles and Cal's. I also hand load. I dont need a Magnum. Our deer around here typically weight about 100lbs. What say ye?
wtnhunt
Re: Remington 700, Browning A-Bolt, Ruger, or Savage? Depends on what you want to spend Jeramie. Personally I really like the model 700's. Been hunting deer with one chambered in .270 here for a pretty good while. Feed it the cheap core lokt ammo, and it works great on deer around here which typically do not get over 200 lbs. I do also like the browning a bolts too though. My oldest daughter is shooting an a bolt micro hunter chambered in .243. They are pretty sweet shooters, and got a pretty good feel. The wife and daughter both shoot a .243, and they work fine for deer around here as well. Wife is shooting a savage model 10. That rifle the way I set it up for her is really in all honesty the most accurate rifle in our gun cabinet at this time. All I have done with it is top it with a buckmaster 3-9X40, and done a trigger job on it to lighten up the pull. The wife has better groupings punching paper than I do. All that said though, I have been looking at the 700 adl's at wal mart with the laminated stocks. They can get them in .270 or in 30-06. The laminated stocks look almost identical to the vls rifles, but they do not have the drop floor plate and detachable mag. I am considering a future purchase down the road of one of those rifles in a 30-06 after I get my AR.
Hoyt03
Re: Remington 700, Browning A-Bolt, Ruger, or Savage? I love my 700 in 30-06. I went with that caliber to make it more of an all around gun, plus I already had a 270. The 700 is a sweet gun you will not be disappointed, I have the CDL model. OJR
Re: Remington 700, Browning A-Bolt, Ruger, or Savage? Go with a TIKKA - 270! Great gun and caliber for goat hunting! Use Hornady 130 grain Interbonds!

AJ
Re: Remington 700, Browning A-Bolt, Ruger, or Savage? Like some have mentioned, don't rule out the Tikka or the Howa. They are decent guns also. I don't think you would be unhappy with any that you choose. It all comes down to personal choice. If you want to have fun with a project, look at the Stevens 200. Its dirt cheap at less than $275. It is the Savage gun and you can add a stock of your choice later. Customize the gun and you can have a very high quality shooter at a bargain of a price. [/ QUOTE ] nope, they are just like the savage 10/110. They have a blind magazine box like the Rem 700 ADL did.
M00N
Re: Remington 700, Browning A-Bolt, Ruger, or Sava I personally out of those choices would have picked the Remington 700 in .270 for deer hunting. We have several Remington 700 and Model Sevens (little sister to the 700) and they are great guns. My father loves his Remington 700 SPS to death. He wouldn't trade it for anything and abuses that poor gun left and right and she keeps firing like she was brand new still.

Shaun_300
Re: Remington 700, Browning A-Bolt, Ruger, or Sava I like the Remington 700s for a bolt action rifle. I've shot a Ruger a couple times, they seem to be a nice little gun as well. We've got two 700s, one BDL .300 Win Mag and a BDL .22-250 with the varmint barrel. Both are awesome guns, very accurate (especially the .22-250). As for caliber, the .308 Win is a great cartridge, my dad and lots of my uncles use that caliber and they swear by it. Lots of thump for the size of the cartridge, plus you get the short action along with it.
Guest jbob3006
Re: Remington 700, Browning A-Bolt, Ruger, or Savage? You can't go wrong with any of these brands.... Get the 30-06, it will take any game you'll ever want to hunt plus with the 3006 there's not much of a tracking job... Its what i shoot...
