Randy
I have a slow shower drain and think I have tried about everything on the market. Other than Dynamite, anybody know of any way to fix this? The piping is only about 7 years old.

toddyboman
Re: Slow Shower drain help? Be sure not to take a slow shower otherwise you will have a big mess!! Draino usually works for me.

too_pointer
Re: Slow Shower drain help? I seem to have that problem often too. I unscrew the drain cover, and using a piece of wire, I go digging in the drain for whatever is clogging it up. Good luck. too_
unioncountyslayer
Re: Slow Shower drain help? Don't know if the Drano you used was in gel form, but I've had great success from using the Gel Drano. Leave it in for about 30 minutes and then run boiling water down the drain. Jeramie
Re: Slow Shower drain help? Unscrew the drain cover and get a good plunger.... Dont mess with todays big fancy plastic piles of junk. Get that old ugly thing with the orange/ red head and wooden handle. run a bit of water and plunge like mad...... Im guessing you shave in the shower and or your wife has long hair. This should help.... Make sure you clean up whatever comes up. If you let it slip back down the drain you'll be plunging again in no time. wtnhunt
Re: Slow Shower drain help? My wife and kids all have long hair. I usually use draino max gel, but did not have any last time ours was slow, so I poured some bleach down the drain. Let it set a good while, then came back and ran the hottest water I could down the ddrain. Has not slowed or backed up since.
Leo
Re: Slow Shower drain help? If a plumbers snake doesn't pull out a plug, that's not good. If you are on a septic system the tank may need to be pumped out or the incoming T-pipe is clogged. There are also breather pipes that come through your roof. If those are clogged that will slow things down too.
WIwhitetailhunter
Re: Slow Shower drain help? If you can get at the trap, take that apart and check it for a clog. Otherwise try the plunger (make sure you cover the overflow if it has one) or snake it. Good luck, buddy!!
stevebeilgard
Re: Slow Shower drain help? right below the drain is a p-trap. if you can get to it, take it off and examine it. if it is clogged, clean it. if it is not clogged, you have a venting problem. you need an air supply to the p-trap, that lets air in to allow the water to flow out. that will be $145.85, please, and sent it promptly to... lol

terry264
Re: Slow Shower drain help? Randy, also check the linkage from the flip lever that opens/closes the drain if it has one, to see if it is unhooked and not opening. Also, since you have already used acid, be careful when plunging. Like jeramie said, use the old type of plunger, run some water in there to "seal" around the plunger while plunging. You won't have to push hard once you feel the plunger moving nothing but water (no air), then jerk it up fast. This backward flow of water in the drain will do more to open it than most anything else. But be careful when you jerk it back not to splash on you due to the acid in it. Right after you jerk it back is when the hair will be pulled up and you can remove it then with a coat hanger with a hook bent into it.
